It's not just the illegals this is affecting negatively. What about the women with their name changes during marriage and divorce. Pray you only get married or divorced once since you gotta prove who you are through all of them with CERTIFIED copies.

Unfortunately for me, not only did I pay at the time of the marriage and divorces but now I have to pay yet again for certified copies of my mistakes.

This is one way of balancing the budget!

Guess I stepped on the modirator's toe's.......on my last post.

    Still, let me say this.

Illegal is illegal. And Illegal aliens in any form will be dealth with in the courts whether they have some outlawed document in hand or not. And Utah....see ya in The Supreme Court should ANY of your Illegal's with YOUR license be involved in ANY accident and me.

    Got it?

I waited in line for almost two hours.
Make sure your name on your social security card matches the name on your birth certificate and drivers license (also utility bills). I use the initial of my first name and go by my middle name. A. Marie and I had to apply for a new social security card with my full name on it. I'm calling the utiliy companies and having my full name on everything. This has been a nightmare!

Iam a U.S. citzen and because I was born on a miltary base in Germany I have to prove I am an U.S.citzen. Iam tired of the illegalls get all the benifets and over loading the system. I further belive that if you are here illegal than you have no rights to anything that we have like welfare system, no schooling and no breaks on low income housing. I have been hit twice by illegals and both imes they had a lince and no insurance and it takes an act of congress so to speak to get payed for the damage they do. Our fore fathers set up a system for coming to this country, why do the illegals think they are better than anyboby else that come to this country.

An underclass of citizens is not for the greater good. The Greater good would be for us to return to a time when ethics and morality meant something. Where we never had to pander to a group of individuals as far as enforcing a law.

The drivers license bureau is required by law to turn information over to immigration if asked, as quoted in the article. This could help find people the police are looking for. Other than that, giving privileged cards to people illegally here makes no sense. I guess that's why we are the only state to do it.

Well, employers you have no excuse for keeping illegal aliens. The illegals are giving you proof that they are illegal. I hope you enjoy your fines you are going to pay within a year.

I have had a Utah drivers license for over 45 years and no one in the Utah Government knows that?
No wonder we have illegal aliens.
This new law is absolutely ridiculous it will not keep illegals from driving. It will raise the cost of insurance because more people will be driving without licenses. You can't force people to abide by these kinds of laws.

This law will actually be detrimental for the fact that more people will be driving without a license, even those who are born in America citizens.
Illegals will always be illegals and this law just is a socialism type law to punish true citizens.

Yesterday I renewed my license. What a zoo. And yes they scan all your documents you bring in, now big brother knows even more about you.

The line of people questioning the process was endless. My favorite was the 70+ year old women that had lived in the same house for 50+ years, was known by the DMV processor but couldn't renew her license because whe didn't have a social social security card or a passport or a copy of her birth certificate. The women couldn't remember if she had ever received a social security card and had no W-2 or 1099. Obviously she is illegal in the eyes of our law makers. Go figure!

The legislature has created a rather confusing nonsensical set of rules and requests that will make it hard for a lot of people to renew their license. The prove your address component is vexing, what about the people with PO boxes only...or the spouse that is not listed on utility bills etc, or the fact most people are going paperless and don't even receive the requested statements except by the internet--only partial usable for this process.

Hmmm everyone that's reading and posting a comment in here seems to just lost a job or just being selfish. First of all you lose your job not entirely because the illegal it's because the rich getting richer by outsourcing the job to different continent. No doubt about that why paid American workers for 15-30 an hour while you can paid some people in other continent for less with same result. Think about it ..American people nowaday seem to blame it on everybody else when you should be doing is look for what can you do to help fix the issue on the hands.

Of course illegals have lives. What's your point? They should be pursuing their lives in their country of origin and not stealing my life and the lives of my children. My childrens' classrooms are overcrowded with illegals, the emergency rooms are filled with illegals who will never pay for the services, the social and welfare systems are overburdened by illegals, they rarely carry auto insurance and they often bring diseases such as TB with them when they cross our borders illegally. What's the upside of illegal immigrant, cheap labor. It's not worth it.

Personally I have been hit by an illegal who bought insurance for one month and then dropped it. He is still here and does not show up for court hearings and was not arrested at the time of the accident because he left the scene. So there are criminal charges pending if they ever track him down. This is the general pattern with illegals. So I would prefer the California system where they they deport them and I will fix my own damaged car with my insurance. I am not a moron, just fed up of illegals.

You have to be a real moron to think that issuing a drivers license to Illegal Aliens will stop them from driving. The legal license allows them to purchase cars AND INSURANCE. Take away the license and they can't buy insurance people. In other states if you get in an accident with an illegal they are ALWAYS uninsured. In Utah that isn't the case.

The drivers license shouldn't ever be about immigration, it's about insuring that drivers on the roads are competent and insured. Take away that license and we lose all ability to make sure people are insured and competent and it won't stop a single illegal from driving. In CA you get in an accident with an illegal and they deport him/her and you are stuck fixing your own car and the illegal is back in 2 weeks. Which system is better?

So when are we going to get off this politically correct band wagon and just admit that the real reason we did this as a state is to limit illegals from obtaining legal drivers licenses? Why can't we just admit it? I'm so sick of being labeled a racist simply for asking my fellow residents to obey the same laws that I have to obey!! I agree with you 'In My Opinion' they want all the benefits with out any of the responsibilities!

there should not be any kind of rewards for illegal immigrants,no driving,no free education,no welfare,no rent subsidies, not one thing should be given to people who enter this country illegally, they should all be sent back, and i agree with in my opinion, that is how they are, take take take, with never paying a dime to contribute to the money they steal, yes steal, thats what it is,send them all home

Up here in Oregon we went through the same change last year. Two interesting results of the change were:
    1) Lines in the DMV offices were, and continue to be, much shorter.
    2) It was amazing how many people that are citizens don't have documentation to prove who they are and where they were born. The law caused such people many problems, I'm just surprised they could have gone years or decade without needing such documentation.

Sasheen, next time smile for the camera (:>)!

The answer is not to explain the away the "confusion", but to remove any right illegals have to drive in Utah. If we removed all the perks which are currently offered, we might reduce the number of illegals in our State. I beleive we should welcome and assist all legal immigrants who have gone through the extension process to come here and be part of the American Dream. Illegals, while their intent in coming here might be good, have violated our laws and we should never reward illegal behavior.

....and if waiting at the DMV isn't fun enough. I figure if you cannot speak english or have a heavy accent, you might need to bring proof. Good thing I don't need to renew till 2011.

  • In my opinion
    Jan. 12, 2010 6:19 p.m.

it still isn't right that illegal aliens are allowed driving or any other privileges. If you aren't a citizen, you don't get citizen's rights. How many illegal aliens with a drivers card have insurance? If they are in accidents, do they take care of their responsibilities or rely on the fact that they aren't here legally in the first place and thereby don't have to abide by our laws? That's what I hear all the time from them. They like the benefits but scoff at whatever doesn't aid them.
