I agree with most comments before me. McGrady should not be in the running because of his absence from the game. There are a number of PGs that should be considered.Should pick no more than two from each team which would allow allow more teams being represented and a fair share of exposure. All of these teams have an all star waiting in the wings. There needs to be a better system in place to even out the team representation. To much fan fair and over lopsided voting by fans. Lets get real and do it the right way.

So what your saying is because Deron is doing better his team is doing worst. I don't know what the heck you were thinking. Lebron and Kobe are also the leading scorers on there team. You can't do anything if your teammates aren't making plays all d-will can do is get them an open look but its up to them what the do with the ball after. Don't blame d-will for trying to make things happen when his teammates aren't...

If this is the real all star game shouldnt the best players play.
A.I. does not deserve a spot hes ineffective he percentages have always been below average. McGrady is not wanted by anyone.
DWill is the 2nd best pg in the NBA behind CP3 he deserves his role as the backup behind him nash also should be in the game.
The West of course is much better then the East so guys like Parker who would be in the East lineup wont make it in the West.

this author is a clown......stop complaining seriously.....there is a reason mcgrady and iverson are being voted in the allstar game the fans want to see them play dummy....that is what the allstar's is about...I seriously would rather see Mcgrady at the allstar game then nash/dwill/paul who have not done anything exciting these past allstar games....it is def not a serious game so who cares.....i swear people are so dumb

Most people do not put alot of stock in individual stats. That is kind of the point in the Jazz situation. His PPG is up. D-Will is dominating the ball too much and his team mates are standing around and not doing anything.

He is the leader isn't he? Why aren't his teammates getting better? Isn't that what a leader is supposed to be doing? Making those around him better? He has several starters who are declining in ouput. Okur, Brewer, and CJ is all over the place.

To me that is a bad sign. Our playmaker should be figuring out how to get everyone else to up their production--not just try to do it all and pile up his own stats. There are lots of INDIVIDUAL stars on teams around the league that are perennial losers that put up decent stats.

I think DWILL has the potential to be the best PG but I think he needs to make some adjustments.

LeBron & Kobe elevate/inspire/demand their team mates play. That is what I am looking for.

My argument the leader is responsible for his team mates play. Stockton/Malone took it personally.

  • CP3?
    Jan. 10, 2010 10:25 p.m.

Are you all kidding me? Chris Paul is less effective than Jimmer. In his last three seasons he has gone from a 68% winning percentage to 46%. He has only won one playoff series. He had his head coach fired because he didn't want to play hard for him. He is the golden boy of ESPN who can do no wrong, except lose. He is 3-11 against D Will. As his stats go up, his team goes down the toilet. He looks to have great numbers in everything except the win column. I know D Will is not exceptional, his turnovers are way too high, but The gap between Paul and D Will is non-existent.

Last night on Sports Center, one of the announcers called Dwill the best in the league.

  • I cant believe it.....
    Jan. 10, 2010 3:48 p.m.

D-Will is an all-star and he is in the conversation with nash and paul.... You say your d-will fans and you don't think he's an all-star.... Something wrong with you and obviously your not a d-will fan.... Its not he's fault that his team doesnt want to compete all the time...

  • Lebron?
    Jan. 10, 2010 3:10 p.m.

did the article say " a league leading 43.7 ppg?"

    Uh...that's way off

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame can be compared to the All-Star Game. This years inductee was ABBA. What about Rush,Genesis,Tesla,Whitesnake,Journey, Jethro Tull, and I could go on of who deserves to be there a billion times more than stupid ABBA?
The NBA All Star game is mostly made up of uneducated fans voting for who they enjoy to watch rather than talent or who is the best.

    Jan. 10, 2010 12:47 p.m.

I don't know why everyone is saying D-Will is having such a down year just because the Jazz are struggling. He is averaging the most points and rebounds of his career, his second highest fg percentage(which has always been above average for a guard), and has the same amount of turnovers he's had for the past 2 years. His assists are down but that has as much to do with the team as him. D-Will is doing a lot better than most people are giving him credit - he deserves to be an All Star. Go Jazz!

  • Nash
    Jan. 10, 2010 12:09 p.m.

Nash is a great player, but he also has great numbers because of the up-tempo system that he plays in. Like D-Will, he also typically has a lot of turnovers every year. Shawn Marion use to be an all-star with suns because he had great numbers with them.... now look at him. He's not even in the conversation.

is a bigger SHAM than the BCS and I'm not just talking about the voting!

  • CP3 the best
    Jan. 10, 2010 9:01 a.m.

Paul is 1,Nash is 2,Billups,Williams,Kidd,Parker are all good but be honest, not up there with Paul and Nash.I voted for Paul.BTW I am a big D-Will fan

  • Deron
    Jan. 10, 2010 9:00 a.m.

He is piling up some stats this year (including turnovers) but his team is doing consecutively worse for the 3rd year in a row now.

    Is that a sign of a leader/all-star?

I say NO when you have this much talent around him.

I will not be voting for D-Will.

The allstar game is a sham anyways.

Deron has been doing all he can to make sure he gets on the big stage in his home town Dallas and I am said to say I don't think what he has done has made his team better.

I`m a Williams fan but the best PG`s are Nash and Paul.Parker,Kidd,Williams are a notch below

  • Too many guards in the west
    Jan. 10, 2010 8:54 a.m.

If Nash becomes a starter, CP3 and Brandon Roy will get the coaches nod. If the west would need a fifth guard, they would have to choose among Kidd, Parker, Billups and Deron. Since the All Star is in Dallas, it could be Kidd.

  • Nash
    Jan. 10, 2010 8:51 a.m.

is the guy who deserves to be on the All Star team . Go Suns!

The Big injustice is that Memo has been an All Star and D-Will hasn't.

This inbalanced farce has been going on for many years. It appears that now we can not only expose it, but we can make it right. Do the right thing. As the article suggests, vote for Steve Nash so he will overtake Mr. McGrady so that that travesty does not take place. With Mr. Nash in the first position, the coaches will be able to choose the real all star point guard in Deron Williams. Now I do follow the Jazz and do know that Deron has had better years. Nevertheless, he has been cheated by this Barnum and Bailey system for several years now. Therefore, I say, allow the coaches to select Deron Williams as the second all-star behind Steve Nash (or Chris Paul as I have not followed him nor Steve well this year) as the second in command of the Western point guards. That I have followed for several years and truly believe that Mr. Willams is very much so the Number Two, if not number One, point guard in the west for all he does - scorer, assists, team leadership, head to head duels, and, strong director of the guard, PG.

DWill doesn't belong on the all star team. I am as big a Jazz fan as there is, but I call it like I see it. I don't see DWIll being an all star while in Utah.

Not because of the "small market" nonsense (Stockton??), but because he will be out of Utah before Bullups, Nash and Parker decline enough for DWill to deserve the honor.

Right now he's the fifth best in the league and there are some young guys who will likely surpass him. I don't see DWill ever being an All Star.
