Poor David, He gets political sniping whether he's attending Obama's inauguration, performing at Children Uniting Nations State Department event with Pelosi, or now attending a women's conference that includes Orin Hatch and Laura Bush. David never mentions his own politics and is wise in not doing so. He doesn't push his religion and is sensitive to those in the audience who may not be religious. He is generous, humble, and leads by example. He gives much time and attention to charities. He is the rising star of teens and ALMA. What more do you need to know?

    Give him a break.

Wow, Some here criticizing the choice of David to speak is really quite ignorant. David is one of the most NON-JUDGEMENTAL, understanding, compassionate & grounded men I've ever heard of. He's given countless examples of this over the last year & 1/2. While his morals & beliefs are very important to him, he doesnt push it off on other people. He doesnt hold himself in higher regard than anyone else. David isnt a child who is incapable of figuring out whats right & whats wrong with any organization be it political, religious, business or any other. He is smart, perceptive, strong & wiser than most people I've heard speak. An awful lot of assumptions being made here about his political beliefs just because he's attending this conference. Be careful, you know what they say about making assumptions. You're making "a you know what" out of you & umptions. Please, dont ASSUME what you perceive as the worst of someone, just because of their religion. Besides, people have a right to be republican or democrat, neither is a disease for goodness sakes. Thank You!

    Good point, violet4ever.

I personally ADORE David, and suspect that with time and experience, given his sweet-natured, generous mentality (I also think he's very bright, if not "intellectual") he'll figure certain things out, aside from what the Mormon Church has fed him politically.

God gives you a brain to separate the wheat from the chaff, even regarding your own church.

(And if anybody is unaware of his talent, check out his performance on Youtube at the latin ALMA Awards in Septmber).

I would bet the young man has no clue about politics. But to "violet4ever", I would bet everything I own that if asked, he would say he is Republican. He is, after all, a Utah Mormon.

Nobody knows what David's political leanings are and they certainly aren't determined by or revealed by where he speaks. He already spoke at a somewhat more Democratic Children Uniting Nations conference in the State Department ballroom in Washington DC. The organization is run by a woman who used to work for Al Gore. David also spoke at a school in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. And he speaks to Mormon groups around the world. One thing that makes David great for the women's event is his respect for girls and women. Plus what a great way to get more females to attend the conference!

I think it's fabulous that David has been asked to speak at this conference. He is just a guy who wants to reach out to others in hopes of brightening their day. Anyone who has the privilege to hear him sing or speak live should count it as a blessing! David truly is "An Exquisite Creature" driven by his Heavenly Father. Do we idolize him, no, but we can ALL learn a little something from him! Way to go David! Keep on being yourself, you're right...it works!

David tries to appear open and broad-minded in interviews and even said that it was fine for Idol's Adam Lambert to be gay, but I think he says what people want to hear. He is all but endorsing the Republican party. He is very conservative.

If we had a female almost winner of American Idol who'd been able to make records and tour, I'm sure she'd be the focus :-).
And what better way to draw women to a Women's Conference than a sweet-hearted young man :-)?

Really? He's not mine. He's not my neighbors' idol. He not an idol to any of my relatives.

You should come right out and say it: "famous Mormon idol".

Aren't there enough female role models available, that a male reality TV show contestant has to be brought in to fill a slot....and sell tickets?

Maybe as David becomes more sophisticated politically, he'll learn how un-Chrsitian the GOP really is, and what they're really about.

There are Mormon Utah non-conservatives, if not a lot.

An all GOP event. So much for inclusion.

I love Laura Bush. I certainly admire David. What an all star cast this will be. I will be sure to attend.

I enjoy the previous comments to mine. Wonderfully said. Ummm except "REALLY? | 11:20 p.m. Oct. 15, 2009

Note: Could you guys maybe update your photo archive of David? That is an old picture of him. Thanks.

I have never attended Hatch's conference before now but with David Archuleta speaking I will register! David is indeed an incredible talent and a thoroughly good human being. Wish there were more like him.

Posters above have mentioned David's new Christmas album, Christmas From The Heart. Although I hate hearing Christmas music before Thanksgiving, I cannot stop listening to incredibly beautiful album. David is a gift!

How blessed you will be to have David Archuleta speak before your women's group. Truly he is blessed by God. Not only is David a musical prodigy, but he has a character that these women will admire. David will bring them honesty and a wry sense of humor, mixed with the most charitable and always open heart and mind. David's voice is a draw for sure but his story is one that continues even now. God is working to make this young man a beacon.
These women should bring their teens and tweens with them to this gathering. David is sure to inspire them to never give up and to always respect themselves. And yes ladies, he is for real. He is the real deal. Don't let his bashful giggles throw you. While still a teen, David is wise way beyond his years. He is sure to amaze and delight you, while at the same time enlightening you. My favorite descriptive phrase of David James Archuleta is that he is "An Exquisite Creature". But you'll find that out for yourselves. Please take care of him. He is very precious.

I would so like to be there to hear what David says - I hope there will be a detailed account of what he shares - we can all learn from him.

I'd love to hear Laura Bush speak. She would be amazing. And of course, I hope David sings. I'm sure the people attending will be interested in what he has to say too. I'm proud of him not only because I'm a fellow Utahn but I'm proud of him as a person. He seems really humble and kind. Glad he is able to fit this conference in his schedule.

I hope Utahns will support his amazing Christmas album. I bought it and happy to say that it is beyond my expectation. Kurt Bestor has his hand in making this album. All the songs are done so well and David's voice backed up by an orchestra is simply beautiful. The album is a keeper for years to come.

David Archuleta is indeed "an unbelievable talent"; I'm listening to his album "Christmas from the Heart" and it is exquisite! his voice is out of this world. David is also an amazing human being; a great role model for women, men, children, teenagers, for people of all ages, nationalities, races, backgrounds. He is simply the best. I'm very proud of him and I'm very proud to be his forever fan.
