Umm... They will come, how do you expect the Y to be in the top 5 BCS rankings? Utah to BCS, TCU to Vegas, BYU to Armed Forces bowl, Utah will Beat BYU by 17 or more, I actually don't mind the Dist. of the conference TV games, Every Utah and BYU game has been on TV this whole year, I don't think that would happen with out the MTN TV deal. BTW better to have BEATEN TCU at home with a thriller, than to have gotten SMOKED by them on the Road I love that BYU fans just don't get we are having a better year!!

By Nov. 22 BYU will be in the top 5 in the BCS rankings. Utah will probably stay at 10. What better match-ups are there? Don't sit and pout, lets RISE AND SHOUT!! Cougars love oranges and warm weather. I smell another championship!

Wow...we in no way deserve to host Game Day. We'd have a handful of geeky fans, each waving his/her own sign, standing behind them. It'd be a joke.

I guess the sports information department at the U is not a real fan, because the email I received from them concerning the broadcast of the U game only mentioned that it would be available on Direct TV, Dish Network or online Pay Per view...they didn't seem to know that it would be on Comcast with the digital sports package...which is where I watched it.

The Utes TV deal has limited the team from being seen on the West coast. No one gets your channel called the MTN. Most people don't get or know what the CBS C channel is. Utah has lost touch with fans outside of UTAH. Great year though.

The article title caught my attention, so I read it. Maybe Scott Pierce needs to realize nobody reads his articles. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. As far as Gameday is concerned, do you think a no show by ESPN will take away from the games importance? Love all the Cougar posts about education. BYU has obviously helped them spell incorrectly using phonics! Good work Cougar fans, you all have shown your IQ.

Ok, there are many other conferences that have their own programing yet still have deals with ESPN and ABC. Its a said site to see game between the #11 and #10 teams in the nation on a piece of crap channel we call CBS-C. The MNT is a complete joke and the MWC is stupid for persuing that and cutting all ties with the promotional power of ESPN. The fact that BYU and UTAH will be on the freaking Mnt. is a discrace to both teams. This game will have many BCS implications and the fact that it is going to be at the mercy of the worst football commentary ever is kicking them while the're down. A 1A highshool commentater from a town of 500 people can do 100 times better then the people on the mountian. A game like that on Nov 22 needs to be on ESPN or ABC. Thats what BYU and Utah deserve and the Mountian West have taken publicity away from its best teams. And that is a disgrace!

That is hillarious about the "blackout." It really is the gr8t edukatshun that u can geet on the hiil, i mean hill. I'm a die hard BYU fan and even I knew from the commercials that the TCU-Utah game was a game where fans should wear black. TOO FUNNY!

The Mtn and CBCS can be found in HI-DEF? That is news to me. Here in Albuquerque, Comcast cable offers both networks but only in a non-HD format. Is is in HD on satellite?

The Utah/BYU game will be in HD on the Mtn.

I can see where people who only read the headlines would be confused about the "Blackout". I can also sense the frustration. The game is blacked out on TV so they decide to go to the game and are told its been sold out for weeks.

What is the deal with the POOR broadcast production of Mountain West football games? They seem to be unable to find technical people who possess the ability to even focus the camera let alone accurately follow the on field action. Who are these people? Are they local "talent" or are they from elsewhere?

Scott, do you or anyone else know if it is possible that CBS C will pick up the Utah BYU game from the Mtn so we can watch it in HD? That Mtn picture looks real bad on an HD TV and they seem to have trouble keeping the camera on the ball carrier for some reason...

    Nov. 8, 2008 9:20 a.m.

I wish all of the games were on CBS C instead of the Mtn. The game looked great in HD and it was night and day as far as all of the other production value as well.

I live in the Bay Area and follow BYU and Utah sports religiously. I have the DirectTV Sports Pack and am able to see all the MTN games, CBS College Sports games, etc. I'm still on afterglow from watching the Utah/TCU game.

I have to admit, if you're a real fan, you can't just casually expect the games you want to see to show up as you flip through the channels. With all the network coverage chaos you just have to plan in advance.

  • Agreed
    Nov. 8, 2008 8:43 a.m.

I agree. The MWC has had the TV schedule published on the MWC website for months now. The only question mark was BYU vs Utah State. How is there still a question as to where CBS-C, Vs, and the Mtn are and how much they will cost you on cable or satellite?

Real fans know this stuff cold.

BYU probably hopes the GameDay crew doesn't come because the only time they came to a Utah-BYU game BYU got smoked pretty bad. The only chance of GameDay coming that week is if Texas Tech and Oklahoma both lose this week so Tech would have 1 loss and OU having 2 losses. Even then that would be a better game for them to go to. A warmer location and they'd probably have a bigger crowd outside

  • Don't worry Scott
    Nov. 8, 2008 8:02 a.m.

...we BYU fans were with you all the way on the broadcast schedule for the games. It was all of the clueless bandwagon ute fans that were whining about the "blackout" and not being able to see their sorry little team barely get past a weak TCU road team.

Game Day won't happen in Utah this year--not for the BYU/Utah game. The Ttech/Okla game is of more significance nationally, unless they both falter a lot before then. That's doubtful.

However, some might argue that Utah going undefeated and BCS-busting AGAIN might be a compelling story. Guess we'll see. Utah should stay ranked ahead of an undefeated Boise State by virtue of the MWC being a stronger conference, and Utah beating a one-loss BYU, nationally-ranked BYU. Boise State only has multiple-loss unranked teams left on its schedule.

Utah's "blackout" was a pretty cool idea--the antithesis of BYU having a "whiteout." Red-outs and blue-outs are "old school." (Everyone does their main colors.) Nice to see the MWC schools being different.

What would an silver-out look like? (UNLV, are you listening?) How about a yellow-out, or brown-out, Wyoming? (Oh, sorry Wyoming, you have some pretty bad colors.)

Let's hope Boise State falters against one of its nobody opponents, then BYU can become the first non-BCS school to get an automatic birth with one loss.

However, BYU needs to get their act together today to have any chance of that happening. Can't have a so-so game against the MWC cellar-dweller.

Scott, Hardly anyone reads your articles so please don't expect the news of MWC broadcast coverage to come from that. The fact is, following our favorite teams in the MWC is like trying to find a needle in a haystack...if you look hard enough you'll eventually find it. It is an expense; satellite is worth it, cable is not.

No way does ESPN to GameDay in SLC. The Utah-TCU game was too big to be shown only on the weakly watched CBS-C network.

MWC should retain the right to have a simulcast of games if certain conditions happen such as high rankings between opponents, or a big buy-in from the secondary network so that the primary network is well compensated for the simulcast.

This isn't new and it happens all the time to get better coverage. Last year Cougar fans enjoyed seeing BYU basketball games on the BYU-TV when coverage was poor or not carried which helped to build support for the games.

Time to build an alliance again with ESPN if only as a simulcast. Or maybe the Cougars should take over the NBC exclusive contract they had with Notre Dame since they have not been great the last few years. Well, that would never happen, but sufficeth to say, the MWC still has not earned the respect it deserves nationally.

    Nov. 8, 2008 7:11 a.m.

No, you're not making it up. I had a few people say to me that they were disappointed they couldn't watch the game because it was 'blacked out'. I laughed and explained the new definition of a 'black out'.

    Great game, Utes!

  • Real Issue
    Nov. 8, 2008 7:09 a.m.

You are missing the point. Why must MWC continue to act as a mickey-mouse conference? Who cares whether fans could have learned about this non-broadcast 4 or 8 months ago? The real story would be trying to explain why the MWC sold this game to TV station very few people have. Doesn't make any sense. With all the troubles they've had in gaining wider distribution of "The Mtn." (silly name, by the way), why would they alienate fans by choosing to a very limited distribution of this particular game? The MWC is poorly managed.

  • Blackout!
    Nov. 8, 2008 6:46 a.m.

I wonder about that before the game if people caught that. TV Blackout - Blackout Uniform - BUT didn't think wearing Blackout to the game! The word Blackout in our time would be no TV! Too bad some of those people and especially who are Utes fans thought that was really funny. That Uniform really remind me of TT RED RAIDERS but they didn't played like their style. GO COUGARS!

  • Wow...
    Nov. 8, 2008 1:39 a.m.

People need to get in the loop. If you are an actual fan, you would have known these things. Especially about the blackout. And if BYU wouldn't have lost to TCU, I think the GameDay crew would have been in Salt Lake on Nov. 22nd, but the Oklahoma v Texas Tech game will be the one they go to, unless both of those teams lose both of their games two weeks in a row, which ain't gonna happen.
