Hey rude awakening, uh, yes we did see you guys riding around town on your high horses. In fact, it got a little out of control. You must not remember because it was so short lived.

I would suggest that some Ute fans not get so worked up over a bunch of Cougar fans being excited about their team. You would be and have been excited about big wins by the Utes; as you should be; but stop acting like you are the only ones who are allowed to enjoy a victory. By your standards Utah hasn't gotten their noses out of the air since 2004. Careful, you'll get a nose bleed.

I love how you kewger fans have become very, ummm...let's just be nice and say over-confident. You beat a lower end pack-10 team. Guess what, we absolutely demolished that same team last year too, AND YOU DIDN'T SEE US RIDING AROUND TOWN ON OUR HIGH HORSES! C'mon guys, grow up and get your noses out of the air. The way you guys are talking, you're in for a rude awakening.

Sorry about getting the wrong date in my last post. Still on my quest for perfection. Cougs will not see Reed back for 6-8 weeks, but maybe just in time for UofU game. Hope the younger lads can step it up to keep you undefeated for the big letdown in November. Reed or no Reed Cougs will fall.

And then every player on the BYU team will spontaneously combust so they'll have to put their cheerleaders in too. Bring it On!

  • Wyoming will kill the kittens
    Sept. 19, 2008 4:20 p.m.

No they won't use the cheerleaders because BYU will wear out the rest of the team. They will put cheerleaders in because even the 3rd string will beat BYU. The starters will not play after the first quarter and the 3rd string will start the 3rd quarter and not play in the 4th. BYU will have negative rushing yards and Hall will throw 5 interceptions and then break his collar bone in the 3rd quarter

The biggest suspense in this game will be to guess how many times their Pistol Pete mascot will fall down running around in that dumb looking costume. I swear that thing looks more weird than the Burger King mascot. I'm going with 6 times.

  • Wyoming
    Sept. 19, 2008 3:16 p.m.

So wyoming will have to use the cheerleaders because the BYU team will wear out the rest of the Wyoming team? That sounds interesting, unusual prediction, but interesting.

    To Polls Are Lame

Isn't it the coaches that voted LSU into the national championship game last year after being beaten twice? I do not believe that LSU should have been in the natinoal championship. They were an outstanding team but come one how can you have a 2 loss team playing for the championship?

  • Wyoming will kill the kittens
    Sept. 19, 2008 2:27 p.m.

Wyoming is going to have a coming out game and will win 42-28. And 21 of those 28 points for BYU will come in the 4th quarter when the cheerleaders are playing for Wyoming. BYU doesn't stand a chance. They quit paying us to throw games for them so now we will just kill them!!!!!!!! Their money has run out and now so have their wins against Wyoming!!!!!!!!

  • Cowboys Will Lose
    Sept. 19, 2008 2:00 p.m.

The cowboys will lose big this weekend. I don't know how in the world BYU would let down after the roll they are on. I would be surprised if any of the starters make it to quarter three. Except we might see Collie at the QB spot.

I haven't seen a writer's poll yet that wasn't lame. I'm looking for a playoff straight off the coaches votes, since they are the only ones who really know what their voting on. The writers are nothing but fictional story freaks.

  • Huskers #1???
    Sept. 19, 2008 1:33 p.m.

"Why would they put Nebraska at #1 if they weren't number 1?"

    good question

Ask the mathematician who programmed the computer how his bit smashing came up with such an irrational result?

But, before you do to much digging, just know that results like Colley's Matrix are the reason the BCS reduced the role of the computer rankings to account for only 1/3 of the BCS equation, and then further reduced the damage any single computer poll could do by combining the results of 6 computer polls.

  • Pokes Win
    Sept. 19, 2008 1:27 p.m.

  • BlueBoy
    Sept. 19, 2008 1:00 p.m.

BYU will either win the National Championship this year, or be lucky to make it to the Las Vegas bowl. I doubt there will be an in between.

In other words, if they win out, with the way everyone seems to be getting upset this year, BYU might be the only undefeated team playing a one-loss BCS team for the title; or, BYU will lose 1-2 games in conference and feel lucky if they get to play in Vegas. Anything in between these two scenarios is certainly possible, but unlikely I think.

I might be wrong about the rest of the college football world about not having anyone else undefeated. It's just that this year seems to be one of those kind of years. And if you look back, we haven't had that many undefeated BCS teams over the past 10 years by bowl time. Could happen!

  • Re: Cougarkeith
    Sept. 19, 2008 12:47 p.m.

So the only way for a team to prove itself classless in winning is to do it by kicking on-side kicks and fake punts?

What about leaving starters in for longer than necessary? What about running up the score just to break or tie a record?

I am not insinuating BYU is classless at all. I just take issue with your narrow definition of classless. It seems your definition of has more to do with some personal vendetta against Kyle than understanding teams can win without class for a myriad of other reasons than trick plays.

  • CougarKeith
    Sept. 19, 2008 12:24 p.m.

BYU needs to do what they did to UCLA against every team in order to have a remote possibility at a nation title crack, and that is IF, and notice I put a BIG "if" there are no other unbeaten teams left standing at the end of the year. And we know they have class too. So the score must be about 42-0 or so at the half so BYU can come out in the second half put up 1 more score to make it 45 or 49, and then put in back-ups on offense. In the forth quarter start replacing starters on defense, but stay strong. WE MUST DO THIS for any shot at a national title.

The team and Bronco and fans have to have this "Crush, Kill, Destroy" mentality, then go at it one game at a time without looking ahead. It is not the classless thing to do, it is the necessary thing to do. If they start with the fake punts and on-side kicks like Kyle, believe me, I will jump on the Anti-BCS for BYU bandwagon faster than you can say I-Hope-They-Lose-A-Game! However we know Bronco and his players, it's a quest for perfection.

  • Michael Reed
    Sept. 19, 2008 12:18 p.m.

will be missed, as would any good starter, but BYU has plenty of receiver options to go to -- Collie, Pitta, George, Unga, Fui -- so I don't think Reed's absence will have any serious impact.

We might even get a glimpse at a couple of players like J.J. and Chambers.

Reed's injury also comes at probably the easiest stretch of BYU's schedule: Wyoming at home, bye, at Utah State.

  • Matt A.
    Sept. 19, 2008 11:51 a.m.

Ute fan here. I heard about Micheal Reed's knee injury yesterday. I thought I'd ask the BYU faithful if his absence makes any of you worry about any pitfalls in the well-oiled machine that is the BYU offense?

Not trash talking, only asking out of curiosity. I've noticed many BYU fans think highly of Reed's role in the offense. Not obsessed with BYU either, I just like to gauge fans' opinions on both sides.

  • Classy and Not
    Sept. 19, 2008 11:33 a.m.

It's too bad all BYU fans can't be as classy as their coach. Truly great teams don't have to tear down their opponents in order to look good. Showing respect for your opponent and then soundly beating them are not mutually exclusive.

  • Respect the PAC-10
    Sept. 19, 2008 11:24 a.m.

As much as I despise the condescending attitude of most PAC-10 fans toward MWC teams, I do respect the PAC-10 schools for having the guts to schedule home-and-home series with the MWC.

Without a playoff, it's the only way a truly judging how MWC teams stack up against teams from other conference teams. It's ridiculous to try to draw comparisons with teams from conferences that will only schedule MWC teams at home or not at all.

    We need a playoff.

  • Be Respectful/Beware of Pride
    Sept. 19, 2008 11:13 a.m.

BYU fans need to remember civility in terms of being respectful to Wyoming fans, whether in online remarks or at the game itself. Cowboy fans hate BYU enough as it is for us to add more fuel to the fire with condescending remarks, which I'm sure they've already heard plenty. However, on the field, BYU should show no mercy. Kill the Cowboys, but please be humble about it.

  • re: Husker Fan
    Sept. 19, 2008 11:01 a.m.

I'm sure BYU would enjoy visiting Lincoln to play in front of 75,000 screaming fans in Red and Black; it'll never happen though, because Nebraska will never agree to a return visit to LaVell Edwards Stadium to play in front of 65,000 screaming fans in Blue and White.

Nebraska NEVER schedules non-BCS teams away from the cozy confines of Memorial Stadium.

The Huskers know that there's a good chance they'd lose to teams like BYU, Utah, TCU, Boise State, Fresno State if they ever had the guts to venture into the cozy confines of their stadiums.

    the unfathomable computers

Nebraska started 2007 Ranked #19 Coaches Poll, climbed as high as #14, then disappeared from the polls, losing 6 or their last 7 games to finish 5-7.

Nebraska starts the 2008 season unranked in either of the human polls; in three consecutive home games they beat up on a MAC school that finished 5-7 last season and two lower echelon WAC schools, San Jose State (5-7) and New Mexico State (4-9) by decent, but not particularly impressive scores.

And this is the kind of resume one mathematician's computers use to rank Nebraska well above USC, Oklahoma, and Georgia?

Anybody out there who is still convinced that the SOS built into the computers will actually help their team when it comes to the BCS rankings?

The scoring by quarters comparison is the actual cummulative points each team has scored each quarter this season.

  • #1 Nebraska
    Sept. 19, 2008 9:34 a.m.

    Sat, Aug 30 Western Michigan W 47-24
Sat, Sep 6 San Jose State W 35-12
Sat, Sep 13 New Mexico State W 38-7

Raise your hand if you think your team could have done as well as Nebraska against the same opponents.

    Your Prediction for Saturday?

    BYU vs. Wyoming

    Scoring by quarters comparison

    1st ... 2nd ... 3rd ... 4th ... Total
    BYU ... 28 ... 55 ... 24 ... 21 ... 128
    Wyoming ... 7 ... 7 ... 10 ... 13 ... 40

I'm okay with your prediction that BYU springs 128 on Wyoming, but how is it that you think Wyoming can put on 40 on our Cougars? Regardless, I can't wait to see the 2nd quarter when BYU scores 55. ;-)

    it's all a jumbled mess

    Sep. 17, 2008
    By Dennis Dodd
    CBSSports.com Senior Writer

    Here we go again.

Nothing looks like it did three weeks ago. East Carolina is a contender, and not just for the Conference USA title. The preseason No. 1 (Georgia) is undefeated -- and has dropped to No. 3. If you ranked the three toughest conferences top to bottom right now you'd have to go SEC, Big 12 and Mountain West?

Using the European soccer model, the worst BCS conference should be relegated and replaced by the Mountain West. The conference is coming off one of the best weeks in its history. BYU and Utah are ranked. The Cougars have the nation's longest winning streak (13) after having annihilated UCLA. Four of the nine teams are undefeated. The league is 5-0 against the Pac-10.

BYU remains the favorite but not all its opponents are going to roll over like UCLA. The Cougars have to play three other Mountain West undefeated teams on the road -- TCU, Oct. 16; Air Force, Nov. 15 and Utah, Nov. 22 ...
