Don't you dare talk about coach Knight or any of the coaches like that we have the best coaches in the whole state of Utah. They teach us how to be the best we can be on and off the field.

    Aug. 12, 2008 11:30 p.m.

cmon it wasnt 10 personal fouls a game...........it was 13. This year a combination of thinking they are tougher and getting stupid personal fouls will kill them because they wont have the talent to get away with all the personal fouls and still win. Time will tell.

  • Blame?
    Aug. 12, 2008 6:25 p.m.

You telling me it wasn't AF's fault that they got about 10 personal fouls penalties in each game last year?

  • Nice one not this year
    Aug. 12, 2008 6:15 p.m.

Obviously, you didn't read the article saying AF with make the tourney as a 4th seed. Region 4 only gets in three teams this season. It says that at the bottom. DUH!

  • not this year
    Aug. 12, 2008 5:05 p.m.

sorry af but your year was last year, not this one. you've got maybe half the talent you did compared to last year. you'll get back to the state tourney but only as the 3rd or 4th seed.

  • RIDICULOUS
    Aug. 11, 2008 11:41 a.m.

MOST OF THESE COMMENTS ARE ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. LAST YEAR A.F. GOT A BAD RAP. THEY DID START THE FIGHTTHEY WERE BLAMED FOR. THEY ARE GOOD YOUNG MEN WHO HAVE A LOT OF HEART AND ARE VERY AGGRESSIVE. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT. THEY AREN'T THUGS...Move out of Utah for a year or 2. All these comments sound so sheltered and closed minded. The football program doesn't teach them values, the parents do.....The coaches at A.F. are amazing. They teach hard-nosed football as well as good morals. I don't know what they have done that you all think is sooooo bad. We have played in real programs where this whole discussion would be laughed at. They aren't at church, they are on a football field for crying out loud.

  • What???
    Aug. 11, 2008 11:10 a.m.

Who cares about 7 on 7 or the linemen challenge. We'll find out how good all the teams are in 2 weeks. And Bingham won the Lineman Challenge and the 7 On 7 tournament at BYU so I dont know what you all are bragging about?????

    Aug. 10, 2008 7:04 p.m.

Skyline is going to get embarassed by AF. They shouldnt have even scheduled the game.

The skyline lineman killed the american fork lineman at the BYU lineman challenge. It wasn't even close. They are centering their team around them?!?

Caan I goes to AF hi cause my english is the same as urs. Learn the language, you are embarrassing your school! Go to English class and learn something before you go public.

If I am afraid of anything it is reading current and past students comments; they scare me more than your team.

P.S. You don't need to write hahahahahahahaha. A simple ha ha will do.

Coach Mendenhall went to AF how big of thugz can they really be? It's football and people get hit and they can hit back. Last year wasn't the fault of only AF. Lets be real and blame it on a few kids that every school has.

  • american fork
    Aug. 9, 2008 1:06 p.m.

yeah af did used to teach kids how to become better men.... what happened? hahahahhaha are you kidding me? so the kids get in a fight so somehow the whole objective changes and the coaches are actually teaching them how to be thugs and fight. are you kidding me? so get this..... a kid from hunter and a kid from af start getting out of hand... so both of the teams backed each of the kids up.... woah what a big story.... everything here in utah is so sheltered. wake up! this story about af fighting has been top news for a full year. it makes me wonder if a stupid fight in cali or texas gets this kind of press. Oh also i played for af a while back.... and now .... the style of play they play by is better than ever. last years team backed it up. sure they messed up when they got in a fight. but what are all you guys gonna do about it? keep talkin about it to try and bring af down. if anyone should be disrespected it should be all of you. who come on here

  • hahahaha
    Aug. 9, 2008 1:03 p.m.

you parents are soooooooooooo ridiculous....... af should be rewarded for letting a kid play football.... a kid transfers so you all are mad? its not cause all they wanted was to win. because they would have won last year without scott lefrandt. they let him play because thats what anyone should do. if the kid loves football and wants to play. who cares what the circumstance is. seriously. the kid had some problems and wanted to play ball..... big deal! you all talk about respect and disrespect. how bout before you tell us who you respect take a look in the mirror. i hope more than anything if you guys saw one of your teamates getting punched on the ground you would go over there and either stop it or protect your teamate. you couldnt show me a football team in the state that wouldnt back there team up in a fight. its a mans game. Af isnt a bunch of thugs..... they are just a bunch of hardnosed players... and thats how they will always be. All you stupid bloggers get real .

  • wait what?
    Aug. 9, 2008 11:42 a.m.

Lusk is the real deal at QB. One of the best in the state.

  • Wow...
    Aug. 9, 2008 9:15 a.m.

the all polly camp ended about 2 hours before the BYU 7 on 7 was over and taking into consideration that they still need to change clothes and commute over to BYU, they were there for maybe the last game if that.

  • Respect
    Aug. 9, 2008 8:29 a.m.

Our kids went to AF a decade ago and it was a good program, not great, but good - always competitive. However, things have changed. Last year we lost all respect for their program when they took a kid who somewhat questionably transferred from LP and then played him against Lone Peak. There used to be respect, now it seems, it's win no matter what it costs. They would have beat the Knights without that kid, but instead used him in that game.

I'm sorry for the AF kids because they have allegiance to their school and their coaches. They do what they're told and if there is a discipline problem it's not their fault. It's the fault of the coaches who don't reign in that natural aggression that is an important part of football. The staff needs to raise their own bar.

Good luck to the Cavemen, but AF Coaches, it's about time you went back to the old honor that used to rule your programs.

    Aug. 9, 2008 1:04 a.m.

AF needs to learn that there are different ways to earn respecting rather than thugging and fighting everyone they play. AF football used to be about teaching boys how to become better men. (Just look at Bronco Mendenhall) Now it seems as though all the players and coaches care about is winning at all costs. It didn't used to be like that when I played.

  • let go of the past and embrace t
    Aug. 8, 2008 8:31 p.m.

Last year was fine for AF. GIVE IT A REST. Players, parents, and coaches know what we have at AF and many schools envy the solid program they have had over many decades. Those clinging to the past, in hopes to discourage only do a disservice to themselves and whatever group or school they represent. Why does this start back up? The future is what we at AF look to; by building on the past TRADITONS we improve the future cause. Last year was a great year for AF (regardless of what any outsider says)and this upcoming season will be better than the last. Those who point fingers need only look to their own schools and the problems and challenges they might have. Summer is quickly coming to an end and you should be focused on what your season will become and how you will stop Dear Old AF High!?! Proud to be a CAVEMAN!

    Aug. 8, 2008 3:20 p.m.

Af made it further than jordan next year and they can do it again. in my opinion, aggression is the best intimidation and if you can beat your opponents mentally, you will have no problem beating them on the field. its a phsycological tool and it its effective.

    Aug. 8, 2008 3:20 p.m.

75% of the starters were gone when AF played Jordan and Jordan won on a last second hail mary. AF has a good chance of getting back to rice eccles again this year. Lusk is the real deal at QB. One of the best in the state. And the speed with the Wright brothers and Olsen will put them back where they left off. Watch out..

Yep, I watched them play Jordan at BYU's 7on7 (which Jordan beat won) They were a bunch of thugs. Defensive backs lining in the neutral zone up nose to nose with Jordan wide outs. Punks. Good thing Jordan beat them!

  • Control your kids
    Aug. 8, 2008 6:29 a.m.

AF Coaches need to control their kids on the field or their parents should too. I was watching them at Snow College camp this summer and I was very disappointed in their school, they acted like a bunch of non-disciplined thugs. It almost seemed like every down, they were trying to pick a fight with each team they played. Apparently they didnt learn anything from last years probation.
