This goal is Quixotic, tilting at the CO2 windmill.

So they're going to build nuclear power plants, right?

When Governor Huntsman picked a bunch of far left "environmentalists" to comprise half of the Renewable Energy group, with the Sierra Klub's Tim Wagner to honcho that group, he set the direction for Utah. That direction is full tilt toward COLLECTIVISM, old soviet-style!

These transportation goals exemplify the most absurd part of that collectivist bent. Here, the purposfully ignorant enviro-extremists focus on the hilarious goal of increasing mass transit from an impossible 2% in 2010 to a zany 36% in 2030, (Note: this is "measured" in vmt reduction for 80% of trips).

These goals ignore a few facts:

The 2001 National Home Transportation Survey by USDOT found transit was at its lowest in history, just 1.6%.

National expert, Wendel Cox calculated that transit share would increase only a few percent if transit spending quintupled.

UTA's current share is only about 1% of vmt.

Modeling by engineers at WFRC show UTA share increasing to only 2.3% by 2030, even with UTA getting over half the spending in the last Long-Range-Plan.

Give UTA 90% of all funding, say $45 billion; they won't get 10% share.

But, road transportation everywhere, except SLC, will halt. Our economy, social structure, and life-styles, will collapse!

If the Guv can control the climate, how about warmer winters and cooler summers, just a tad, thanks.
