"electronic high school" in Utah. On top of that we have BYU which
offers online courses for high school kids at a cheaper rate than what SB65
calls for.SB65 takes our Utah money and sends it out of state to
whatever company wants to claim they are providing online education. I dealt
with one of the schools based in Arizona and it was terrible. You just had to
jump through the hoops and claim credit. No real learning ever took place.This is not the wave of the future unless you are a local legislator.Time to put the money where it can really make a difference, our local

worf:you ask fair questions and most teachers hate the emphasis on
standardized scores. But most people do best being taught by a living, breathing
human being, not a computer or a TV set. Is on-line good for some students. Yes,
but saying it is going to be revolutionary to education is out to lunch. I'm
even doing my Master's Degree mostly on-line with some hours of teacher
interaction. I'm okay with the on-line and enjoy many aspects of it. But I'm not
dumb enough to say that this will work for most people, let alone all people.
And even still, I enjoy interacting face-to-face with my teachers/professors.
Younger people often need human contact even more, more positive role models
etc. Teaching is more than dispersing facts which I suppose a computer can do
just fine. Most of our young students (high school or younger) need positive
human interaction to learn best and again learning goes beyond learning just the

"research based", which means "useless strategies". Does
standardized testing improve learning and motivation?Of the students
going to college, half is in need of remedial classes. Teachers pass students to

our colleges and technical jobs. Our highest performing students are from India
and Asia.We've spent more money on education than any other
civilization. Our school system is the biggest scam in history. It is better to
teach and learn, than to compare test scores.
I have been a student at one of the High Speed Universities online since August
2009 and it has been an answer to my prayers. Their assessments and papers are
NO easy task, so for those who say online schools are "dummed down"
are highly mistaken.
Obviously.... not everyone can teach themselves at a younger age and require

Last year Sen. Stevenson championed SB65 a bill that basically will require
students to take online courses and then take money from the school districts to
pay private companies to provide the instruction. Utah already had an Electronic
High School that was funded and helping districts provide online opportunities
for students without a cost to the districts but his bill will basically
eliminate the cost effectiveness or ability to attract students that it
previously had. In other words in light of the research this article points out,
his bill is taking money from school districts, moving it to private hands, and
hurting the learning opportunities of students. I hope during this legislative
session, SB65 can either be repealed or significantly changed to actually help
students and not drain precious dollars from school districts to pay for
something they can do better.

Utah, is nothing but a shell game to take the money that should go to public
schools and redistribute it to private companies. Many of these companies are
connected to our local legiscritters.Being a student of many types
of classes myself, including online, broadcast, email, in person, etc., I can
attest to the huge disconnect that many students can and do feel running their
education game solo. Online school is NOT the wave of the future as it doesn't
account for so many variables that young students need in a face-to-face,
live-person encounter.Of course, this study and the personal
experiences of thousands of teachers will be completely discounted by the
legislators. There is no money in doing what is right here, at least not for

It has been my observation, having been a father of nine children I raised in
the public schools, my education which was to have been a secondary teacher who
found more lucritive employment elsewhere and my wife's experience as a person
who worked with trainable children that in most instances when the Federal
Government exceeds it's constitutional limitations that whatever program it
invests itself with, one of which is education, it adopts an exclusively Liberal
response, which always detracts from the suposed object it addresses itself to.
This has occured in spades as far as education is concerned. Education is an
article ten matter and will be best handled by parents and community.
