Win or lose, this is a great opportunity to play a legit Top 10, Sweet 16 team in the Marriott Center. Gonzaga has found national prominence by playing several non-conference programs each year, and winning. BYU can move their program up another notch if they can continue to schedule home and home games with teams like Baylor.

If BYU can escalate their program to the same level of respect as Gonzaga, the WCC could become the premiere BB conference in the West. They are already there this year, but more because the PAC12 is playing so poorly.

Great players want to play for respected, winning programs and great coaches. They don't make their decision based on the conference. And if they did, this would actually hurt the PAC12. UCLA, Arizona, Washington and Utah and clearly not the BB programs they used to be.

I agree that Carlino is a product of the "Fredette tree", as referenced in the article, but I also believe Harrison, Nick Emery and TJ Haws are products of this tree. BYU has such a pipeline of talent, that they will continue to be a Top 25 contender for the foreseeable future.

Losing Rogers was a disappointing loss at a bad time for the Cougars. Zylstra, Davies, and Abouo will need to have big games for the Cougars if they are to have a chance.

Davies has had a habit of disappearing and getting into foul trouble. Austin's emergence has been a pleasant surprise. But this Baylor team is the real deal.

This game is a great opportunity to assess whether BYU is a legitimate contender for Gonzaga, and whether it will have any chance at all to do something worth considering them for a decent run at the big dance in March.

I hope the Marriott Center fans get their money's worth today!

It will be great to actually see my first Cougar BBall game this season, tomorrow. Hope Carlino can catch on quickly, and that Baylor is unprepared for him by not seeing any video of his play.

    Go Cougars!!!!!
