Colorado was a Big 8 power; later a power in the Big XII. The Buffaloes never played in the BigTen.

    Cougars - Foolish Little Brother:

"How does it feel being ranked in the Coaches Poll BEHIND a team that counts wins against what jealous Utah trolls consider 'high schools'?"

    (1) Sitting 18-votes back of the Indy-WACers is most assuredly nowhere NEAR as soul crushing as finishing 44-pts BEHIND the Utes on your home field. Haha!

    (2) Most of the voters in the Coaches poll don't even watch the games. All they see is a 8-3 cougar record as opposed to a 7-4 Utah one. But no matter. The season isn't over yet, so Utah can still overtake you in the coming weeks.

    (3) If the Utes lose to CU, we will still wind up in a better bowl than the Y. Haha!

    (4) If Utah were 8-3 we'd be ranked. You guys....not so much. Pac-12 > MWC > Big East > Indy-WAC.

    (5) Utah has not been eliminated from a BCS bowl yet. You guys got bounced 2 months ago.

    (6) Your tears are delicious.

    HUGE Edge: Utah.

"@TrueBlue. It is funny how things go full circle. Utah used to count games against high school teams and now BYU is."

Top notch comment sir. Funny how BYU fans come to troll on an article regarding the far past that most Ute fans don't even care about. Always living in the past Cougars, but it ain't 1984 anymore. Utah is in a real conference with real implications this weekend. Don't give me that "exposure" excuse either. Just because a game is on ESPN doesn't mean people watch it. I have flipped by many Florida International vs. Northern Arkansas games that were being aired on ESPN, but you don't see many rabid fans for either of those teams with their "exposure." Good luck in the future, but it's looking much brighter for the Utes.

I seriously can't believe Y fans are bragging about the fact that they have 21 votes in the USA Today Poll! I mean, I realize you haven't been in the top 25 in QUITE a while, and just having your name listed under "also received votes" is an accomplishment, so I've gotta cut you some slack, but do you think Auburn is belting out their 33 votes from the mountain tops? That is embarrassing, especially considering you're still 133 votes outside of the rankings. You do realize you have like 1/8 of the points that #25 Virginia has, right?

    @Cougars - Wise Older Brothers

Not as bad as being dragged to the woodshed... 54-10.

At 8-3 if you weren't winning games against "high school" teams you would be ranked instead of just counting votes.

BYU's last win over a team with a winning record was last season vs SDSU with the help of an alum in the replay booth.

The fact is NOBODY in the PAC 12, Big 12, ore Big Least cares enough about BYU to even allow them into their conference.

Utah will beat their other rival by 24+ points tomorrow, the only difference this rival won't quit by the 4th quarter.

At least Utah will have a conference rival. After next year, BYU will have nobody!

The fact is NOBODY in the PAC 12 cares enough about Utah to be their rival, so the PAC 12 forced the Buffs to pretend to be Utah's "rival" so the Utes wouldn't feel left out of rivalry week.

Rivalry or not Utah is playing a very meaningful game on Thanksgiving weekend. If things were to break their way the PAC12 Championship game would trump the "exposure" of any and all games played by any team in the state this year. Fox in primetime for a trip to the Rose Bowl. Even without a Championship Game appearance, if the Utes take care of business on Friday, they will most likely be on their way to a bowl game in the second tier, behind the BCS Bowls. PAC12 membership has its privileges!

"Scalley said, he'll "never forget" that game" It's amazing how these games stick with the people who play them and those who witness them.

For TJ's benefit, consider the memories left with all of us regarding...54-10.

butters, I completely agree. I think a rivalry with USC will develop quickly. Next year's game at RES could be very interesting! UCLA too but a little farther down the road. I also think Arizona and Washington will be games to watch for as time goes on. My goodness, this conference is fantastic!

It's rivalry weekend! UofU vs CU isn't a rivalry game, but it's much better and more exciting than BYU vs BYE.

this game isn't a rivalry. not yet anyways. i hate how the media is trying to hype it as such. personally, i think a team like ucla or usc will end up turning into more of a rivalry down the road if the jazz/lakers thing is any indication

C'mon it's Colorado. A huge school. Former Big 10 powerhouse. A BCS team with a live buffalo. A sold out game except for a hundred or so single tickets. And on Fox Sports Network. I'm excited!
But, we won't be rivals. It's easier to get to Arizona than Eastern Colorado in the winter.

Colorado is just plain awful in football. Maybe the ski rivalry can make it to the football field.

"The article says BYU? The Utes didn't start playing the Cougars regularly until 1922. Actually prior to 1922 Utah and BYU met six times and the Utes won all the games."

This just proves how little Utah fans know about their own history.

Brigham Young Academy beat Utah 3 out of 5 games in the 1890's, but the Utes padded their record by counting a spring scimmage as a real game, evening the early series at 3-3.

    BYA 0
    Utah 6

    BYA 8
    Utah 6

    BYA 14
    Utah 0

    BYA 22
    Utah 0

    BYA 0
    Utah 5

Brigham Young University doesn't count the early games in the series because BY Academy was literally a high school in the 1890's, as many of today's great universities began.

Utah counts dozens of games versus high schools in their early record.

btw, "renewing" a "rivalry" that's been dead for half a century proves that it never was much of a rivalry, just two teams that played frequently and then went their separate ways.

Most of the touted success of charter schools and of private schools comes from the requirement imposed by these schools that parents be actively involved in the education of their children. It's an important message and well stated in this editorial and the comment that followed.

    Very, very funny!
In reality, until CO is not in last place and until Utah breaks free of mediocrity in the PAC, this game will mean nothing to practically everyone more than 50 miles from these campuses. When both teams can win 8-9 games and go at least .500 in conference play it will start to get interesting. Until then it will have the appeal of the WSU - OSU game.

Funny Stackhouse! That's what I read when I first saw the headline. With Boulder just up the road, it must have seemed appropriate in my mind, although the Utes are having a much better year and should domminate in the this game.

Talked to my neighbor today who's a CU alum. Talking about the game I said, "We don't have a QB." He said, "We don't have a team." Go Utes, go Cal, and go USC!

This rivalry is important to Ute fans or atleast it should be. BYU will be off the Utah schedule after next year. Utah needs to keep their alumni energized. Utah needs to increase their budget to the likes of USC, Stanford, and Oregon. That means more than doubling the current budget.

That can't all come from increases in student fees and ticket prices. The alumni needs to step up. Oregon has the Nike founder to help bank roll the increase. Utah has an excellant alumni following but now they are going to need to pony up as never before. An intense rivalry is key to that happening. Get psyched Ute's about your new rival the Buffalos.
