Are people really bragging about receiving 21 votes? How sad. Most teams who have been there recently (and I understand you haven't, so I'm cutting some slack) would shy away from such low recognition, especially when you're still more than 130 votes outside of the top 25. I know I'm not beating my chest at finally starting to receive any votes again. I'm sure Auburn isn't boasting their whopping 33 votes they received this week.

    Others Receiving Votes:
    Rutgers 54, Auburn 33, Southern Miss 25, Tulsa 23, BYU 21, Northern Illinois 10, Arkansas St. 10, Missouri 8, Texas A&M 4, Utah 3, Florida St. 1, Texas 1, Iowa St. 1

Impressive, BYU receives more votes than Texas A&M, Florida St, Texas, Missouri, and Utah. Utah?

    Mark my words,

No matter how you spin it. Utes a low tier pac team. Wazzu game is the proof. Live with it, you're no Stanford and you can't duck the fact.

What you don't get jarka-rus is that most football fans who know about the teams in the west and have paid attention to what can happen know that playing in Pullman, WA can be a trap game at this time in November. And for the Utes it turned out that way. That's why we were glad to get the win.

We also knew that Arizona has Arizona State figured out and wins it regularly enough that it is never a given for Arizona State, even when Arizona is struggling. That's why we had an inkling that things might come down to the final weekend for the Pac 12 South.

PS. I haven't heard the win over Wazzu (that's how it's spelled by the way) being compared to beating Stanford by any Ute fans.

Last time Wazzoo went to a bowl game was in 2003, not much more than a WAC team.

Next up on Pac patsie schedule the mighty Buffs oooooo should be a barn burner. Funny how an OT win over the likes of Wazzooo is now some stupendous accomplishment. Before the utesies were in the Pac I guarantee no Ute fan ever looked up the box score for the Wazzoo game that weekend and exclaimed, wow!!! great win for so and so over those mighty Wazzoooo cougs. Now beating them is akin to beating Stanford. Whatever.

Just shows that 21 voters look at overall record and nothing else. BYU has not beat a team with a winning record and played a schedule that is ranked in the 90's (SOS). They lost to Texas and lost to Utah but apparently beating Idaho, Idaho State, and NM State at home makes them a powerhouse.

At our little palce we like all the teams from Utah and this has been a very interesting college football season to say the least.

Just a few observations... granted sample size is small:
    1. The BYU grads and fans either fall asleep or find something else to do when the Y is playing this year.
    2. On the other hand, the PAC 12 Ute games have been entertaining with great competition and the U grad and fans are very happy.

We know the Cougar schedule will improve in time, but lets just crown them the 6A state champ now and get on with life.

Almost forgot, those of you without a Y or U degree, take a chill pill.

    Nov. 20, 2011 2:17 p.m.

Hey Cosmos Cousin - Possibly the best post ever. You might want to look at the Strength of Schedule ratings done by unbiased experts. Utah is in the 20's and BYU in the 90's. Plus I didn't know there was an award for getting the 'first' bowl invitation. Unfortunately we will need to wait and see if we qualify for the Rose Bowl before accepting our invitation which will most likely be the Sun, Alamo, or Holiday Bowl. Maybe your next post might be about how the Armed Forces Bowl beats any of the 4 mentioned above.

The reason why the Utes still aren't getting the coaches respect is because they all know how gifted yesterday's win was.... On the 1 yard line with 3 seconds to go most intelligent coaches would have gone for the regulation win... In fair conditions yes, play your chances with overtime... In snow though..... WIN in regulation! but 18 more votes? Seems like beating NMSU by 35 is more impressive than eeking out a snowy 30-27 ot gift.

Really fun (and stressful) win Utes! Thanks for playing hard to the very end. Also, I agree...please stop the penalties...imagine the outcome had the Utes not had to overcome so many free yards.

With that said - sad to see the BYU folks so bitter about Utah's success. Makes them seem rather tiny and pitiful. Their team seems to have a bit more class (now that Maxie has moved on to...where has he moved on to?).

Anyway - Go Bears, Go Trojans and Go UTES! How great is it if we can have an extra game to watch! This PAC-12 thing is fun...we've gone to SF, Tucson, LA, Pullman (OK, not so great)and a good chance to Eugene (fun town) - we've watched UCLA, Washington, AZ State and soon Colorado at RES...and still have the chance of a respectable bowl game.

Good time to be a Ute Fan! GO UTES!

    re: Mussing with U. 54-10!!!!

What an inferiority complex. Your team doesn't even have a win against a team with a winning record. SO to talk trash about the Pac 12 you are a joke. BYU's Independence schedule is the real joke.

First comment out of the box about the Utah-Washington State game says it all about the little brother, BYU obsession that runs rampant on the hill.

"This will be as competitive as the other game with the cougars."

The Utes have done pretty far below expectations in the PAC. I think you have to call the season a failure since Utaw didn't even have to play Oregon or Stanford. The wins come against the low-tier teams.

When you really look at it, you see that BYU had a tougher schedule playing against SEC and Big 12 teams. That's why BYU is ranked higher, already has a bowl bid, and a better record.

Way to go little brothers beating a 4-7 team in overtime. It must be nice to be in such a pathetically weak conference that you can back into the title game without beating a single conference opponent with a winning record.

We know, you'll spout off about beating UCLA(6-5), but the only way Utah has a chance of winning the PAC 12 South is if UCLA loses to USC and Arizona State loses to California.

  • 4BS St George, UT
    Nov. 20, 2011 10:15 a.m.

The PAC 12 South (with the exception of USC) is really pathetic this year. The cream of the crop is in the north division, where at least 4 teams (Oregon, Stanford, Cal and Washington) are all better than the Utes. So whatever South team ends up in the title game, doesn't have a prayer at the BCS.

I was wondering why no utes were commenting on their team's win. Then it hit me--they're all spending their time commenting on the BYU win. Very telling. Yes, very telling indeed.

    Nov. 20, 2011 8:06 a.m.

Good win last night Utah. I know that WSU is not a great team, but Utah was able to make the necessary plays when it counted. The penalty situation was completely unacceptable and I hope that they guys learn quickly that they need to play more disciplined if they want to compete with the powerhouse members of the PAC 12. With that said, you still can't rule the Utes out of the PAC12 championship. I've loved following the comments from my BYU fan friends, here is how the season comments have gone - "The Utes are going to be the new WSU of the PAC 10.2 (Beginning of season). "The Utes won't even win a PAC 10.2 game" (Early into conference play). "Well..um...the Utes are playing cupcake teams, even Idaho could have beat UCLA" (After a 3 game PAC12 win streak). "Well, IF the Utes get into the PAC12 championship game they will get destroyed by Oregon or Stanford" (Today). The stars are aligning well for Utah. We can beat Colorado, USC will be UCLA, and Cal can beat sinking ASU. Go Utes! Go Trojans! Go Bears! It feels good to be a Ute!

This Utah team is very impressive. They could have folded and closed up shop after the loss to Cal. They kept fighting, and who would've thought, still may be representing the Pac 12 South Division in the Pac 12 Championship Game! This team clearly has a ton of character and a fantastic coaching staff. Either way you look at it, this has been a hugely successful first season in the Pac 12 for Utah. Way to make statement.

...and now utah has a good chance at second place in the south and representing the south at the championship game. Ucla loss and asu loss leaves bruins and UTEs tied. Az state would have to lose to Cal which came close to upsetting the cardinal.

    Go UTES!!

This week has been a stunner! With all that has happened Utah has gone from hopeless when it comes to BCS bowl #3 to alive and kicking. Can the Utes make it six straight? How likely is it to see UCLA beat USC at the Coliseum? Utah needs California to beat ASU. In this scenario because of the tie breaker of head to head Utah would be going to dance with Oregon unless the Beavers pull off the unlikely upset in Eugene. Utah wins, ASU loses one more and USC beats UCLA and my oh my, they've done it. Not in the precise manner I would have like to have seen it happen, but happened nonetheless.
