    @ wardu

"Maybe U can get some shirts printed to tell us all about it. "We beat an indie-mid-major, here's to U."

Here's a couple of shirt ideas for you to wear:

    "I'm obsessed with U"
    "54 - 10"
    "Y a Mid-Major Forever?"
    "Lost 7 out of 10 to U"

Shouldn't you be focusing on USU? Didn't they dominate your team last year?

    Utah 34 UW 17
    USU 42 byu 17

Where does that put your boys in blue?

Thanks for complimenting our team and coaches. I too believe we have what it takes to compete in the Pac 12 and especially in the South Division.

I don't know if we can beat ASU, but I know we have the players and the coaches to beat the remaining teams in our Division that we have to play. Our team's number one goal this season is to win the Division. If that happens, then we go for the Conference Title and it all builds from there. I don't know if we will beat Washington this week. We certainly have the players and coaches to do it, but it could be a close game. Washington is good, but hopefully our defense can keep their inexperienced QB on the ropes.

    Dear PAC-12 haters,

According to USA Today PAC-10 last year was the #1 conference, this year they are #4.

    Dear Utah haters,

Washington is allowing 33.3 points per game with a SOS of 46.
Utah is allowing 14.3 points per game, #15 in the nation, with a SOS of 18.

At RES our defense should be able to handle Washington:

    Utah 28
    Washington 17

Utes lose their next four. Sorry u will just have to get used to fact that u can't compete with current pac 10.2 speed and athleticism.

But Sacramento State does have enough speed and athleticism?

The Utes will do just fine.

Pretty sure I'm gonna toss out all the Y troll comments who predict the Utes will tank it this year and finish near the bottom of the pack. Many of these same folks predicted Utah to get blowout by BYU. Some even predicted Montana State to upset them.

I think the Utes will matchup well against the Huskies. The home field will provide the means for the Utes to provide Whit a 7-0 record after the bye week, and a first win against UW.

If Utah isn't that great, what does that make BYU?

I too am a BYU fan. I wasn't happy about our outcome with Utah either but I am objective, not stupid. I love Coach Whittingham and he will have his team prepared. He looks only to the next game, he will never look ahead. I too can't tell how well Utah will do this year and I think people read too much into BYU's win. It was great however Utah's defense had a big key into that victory and BYU's inability to hold onto the ball (Heaps and Nelson, everyone) didn't help. Any team who has 7 turnovers on any given day will never win a game and will most likely end up with a similar score. I am looking at the overall picture, not just BYU's game. Utah has a lot of potential. I for one hope they win their division, it will be a testament to Coach Whitt and his ability to prep his team before any given game. I like his philospy and attitude. As for our rivalry, it's only for bragging rights anymore and this year, you win. I am over it. Good luck on Saturday.

go fish. The reality is that although most of the rest of the teams U and the Y play are weak, U will be holding the wrong end of the win/loss column and not going to a bowl game. Good thing u had the win in the Cougar Bowl. Maybe U can get some shirts printed to tell us all about it. "We beat an indie-mid-major, here's to U.

Utes lose their next four. Sorry u will just have to get used to fact that u can't compete with current pac 10.2 speed and athleticism. How are you going to recruit outside of Utah if you can't win outside of Utah? Would have been nice to get a win at USC. Guess that will never happen.

I'm a BYU fan, too. Stop it.

Wynn's wing is still recovering, but he has a brain, and makes good decisions.

If Phil Mickelson had Tiger Woods' brain, he'd have more majors that Tiger. But he doesn't. Heaps has a gun, and if Heaps had Wynn's smarts, he'd be a contender for awards and BYU would have crushed their competition. But he doesn't.

I don't know how many wins the Utes will have, but they will not finish at the bottom of the PAC. Put that nonsense to rest.

    Sept. 26, 2011 2:15 p.m.

You can say all you want about UWs defense, but it's stout against the run and we won't see DB's like we saw in Provo last week. These guys can put on a pass rush too (also, non-existent in Provo). Nothing easy. I'm still pullin for a big win, just don't think it's in the bag. This team will hold their own against us.

Pac-12 is currently 0-9 against currently ranked opponents. Only Conference USA (0-12) and the Sunbelt (0-10) are worse. Nice company you are keeping there. The Big East (0-1) is the only other AQ conference without a win versus a top 25 team. The Pac-12 also ranks #1 in most losses of an AQ conference to FCS teams.

First of all, I'm not a big Ute fan, and no homer. I was making nice with Ute fans, while being objective. That said:

"The Cougs in Pullman" are reading the forums? I'm pretty sure Ute players don't have time for that.

The ringing endorsement of Colorado is a game they LOST against Cal? (Whose other wins are against Fresno State and Presbyterian?)

The sum-total of victories of the Bears, Cats, Cougs, Bruins, Beavers and Buffs are:

    Colorado State
    Fresno State
    San Jose State
    Some D-II schools
and UNLV and Oregon State who LOST to D-II schools

Is that what you mean by "balanced"?

The top half of the Pac is nationally competitive.

The bottom half is competitive with the bottom of the MWC and WAC and D-II. Competitive, not dominant.

    I like the Utes' chances.

"the next four games are the key to winning the south". That sounds a little like Heaps saying "the game would be different without all the turnovers". No kidding? Way to go out on a limb.
I won't even go into the comment about the back have of Utah's and BYU schedule, it is obviously not based in reality.

I have been looking forward to this game for a long time. I've almost forgotten what it was like to watch a home game. Montana State was what, one month ago now? But there is something else that is going on Saturday night in downtown Salt Lake City that takes priority. What a collosal scheduling error!!!! Dissapointed Ute Fan

"The last five games of OSU, AZ, UCLA, WSU and CO are no more difficult than BYU's WAC schedule."

Fitz, no way Utah holds UW to 17 points. I'm also not sure UW can hold Utah to 24! Turnovers are the key to this game.

The next 2 games --UW and ASU--are critical.

ASU looked very good against USC last Sat.

Utah needs to win the next 2 games.

  • jefferysl Huntsville, Alabama
    Sept. 26, 2011 10:24 a.m.

Rational...you need to take Coach Whit's advice to take each game one at a time. "Truly awful"? UCLA is 2-2, Wash State is 2-1, and Colorado took CAL down to the wire. Oregon State is certainly having an off year, and Arizona will be mentally ruined after a brutal schedule. The Utes should definately be favored, but the PAC is very balanced. The Cougs in Pullman especially have circled your game as being one they want to get a "W" due to a perceived lack of respect from you guys (hang out on their forums). You've been warned.

  • Big R La Palma, CA
    Sept. 26, 2011 10:03 a.m.

The next four games will either make or break the Utes' season. With ASU beating USC last week that gives ASU a leg up. If they beat ASU then they could lose one other game because ASU will definitely lose to Oregon and will probably stumble against one other team. Utes need to beat ASU and either UW or CAL to be in the driver's seat.

  • Rational Salt Lake City, UT
    Sept. 26, 2011 9:51 a.m.

The Utes' schedule sets up nicely, with their toughest remaining games at home (Washington, ASU), no Stanford or Oregon, and most of the teams after Cal being truly awful. If they beat Washington and ASU, they are a lock for the championship game, and in one game, anything can happen.

utes have nothing to worry about. whit is a genius, chow is incredible, qb will be 2011's heisman. soon they will have to be playing in les as r.e. stadium is too small. the stars have lined up the u is just beginning their glory days. bball is assured a 10 game winning season. it doesn't get any better than this.

Prediction: Juan Blanco el Cuatro goes for 140yds and 2 TD, Wynn goes for 225 yds and a TD and no turnovers. Throw in a FG and the final score with be Utah 24 Washington 17.
If Utah can stay ahead in the turnover margin, I dont think Washington can beat them.

  • jefferysl Huntsville, Alabama

UW fan here, looking forward to the BIG game. Comparison:

    1) Coaching- advantage Utah. Coach Whit will have his work cut out for him defensing the Husky offense, but he has an extra week to do it. Holt's defense has been less than inspiring, Chow is a legend.

    2) UW Offense vs Utah Defense - UW will score, but utah has a very good defense. IF UW avoids turnovers, advantage UW.

    3) UW Defense vs Utah Offense - After watching the BYU game I have a renewed appreciation for Jordan Wynn as a playmaker...perhaps his arm is finally healing? White can run the ball as well. UW is stout against the run, but is horrible against the pass. Chow will exploit it if Wynn can rise to the challenge. Advantage Utah

    4) Special Teams - UW is excellent here with a great Kicker and two very good punters. Kick off coverage is good, but the kicks are short (very few touch backs). Return team is good with Collier and Smith both being pretty exciting. Utah's Kicker is pathetic, other special teams are very good. Advantage UW.

    5) Intangibles - Home PAC opener at Utah, a week to heal, Ad Utah

"Washington looks good, especially the D"

You are joking right? Washington's D has been their biggest weakness this year. They are second to last in the conference in total defense and scoring defense.

    Sept. 26, 2011 8:48 a.m.

Watch it Softball Dad. This isn't the MWC. Washington looks good, especially the D. No way Utah puts up 31. No way. I think we need to reset expectations at UT 17 UW 13. If UW gets over 20 the game is theirs. I don't think they'll make it with our D.

The next 4 games are the key to winning the south division.
I am predicting a loss to ASU, a 2-1 record against UW, Pitt and Cal and Utah winning big in the last 5 games. The last five games of OSU, AZ, UCLA, WSU and CO are no more difficult than BYU's WAC schedule. 5 of the worst teams in the West. If they lose even one of these it would be a big step back.

Utah needs to maintain some swagger in their remaining games.

That doesn't mean they go in cocky and run at the mouth, supplying bulletin board material. Just don't go into the games... or publicly display any doubts or worries they may have.

Utah is good enough to roll through the remaining Pac 12 schedule. Certainly not a given. But they CAN do it. They need to believe it.

Excited to see the Huskies' first game in SLC.

    Washington 17

Can't wait for the Washington game this weekend. I can't recall looking more forward to any other season at any other time than this year's Utah football schedule. One thing about being in the Pac 12---every week will be an exciting game, not just 2 or 3 times during the year.

    Go Utes!!!
