Digs, I don't care who they know. My son's little league coach knows the Bingham's head coach. That doesn't mean they should play each other. Alta, quit picking on little schools.

De la salle vs. St. Thomas aquintas played last night, in the middle of the season? I think the Utah teams win today!

Re:Beaker and ProudFather- The Tribune has a nice read that explains a little more about how these two teams wanted to play two premier teams from Utah. Mannings wife is an alumna of Notre Dame and Manning used to live near Taft by paying all expenses and guaranteeing matchups with two of Utah's premier programs. Now you know folks. Do a little reading get educated then blog.

Well said AltaDad. A lot of guys have some axes to grind.

ProudFather - Alta has played teams ranked in the top 1000. Crenshaw, Bingham, Jordan and TV at the time. All I'm saying is, that the schedule was made in the spring. There were no rankings then for this year. Scheduling is not just as easy as saying " hey, why don't you come to our house and play" i would love to see our boys play any top 100 team in the nation. Bingham and Jordan were in the top 200 when we played them. I'll take it easy and be more tender from now on, i just think that its a good thing when our boys get to experience playing teams from other states. My original comments stated that i wish more teams from Utah could be involved. GO DIGGERS & HAWKS

Take it easy AltaDad. So you are saying that Alta didn't have a choice in who they play? Are you sure? So they had to play two easy California teams this year? I would like to see them play a ranked team in the top 1,000 rather than who they have. I agree with tipitup, it would have been nice to see them play an instate team like Logan who is ranked higher than these California teams.

Beaker - what's your deal? Don't go to the game if Checkets has screwed you over so bad. The games as far as i know were not scheduled by the schools, they were scheduled by xfinity. I'm sure everyone involved would like to bring in a high powered team. Don Bosco Prep??? there is no way that the number 1 team in the nation is coming here to play a mid season game. I would like to see it though. Crenshaw was supposed to be a better team, apparently they lost to many guys. So go back to the lab Beaker and we'll miss you Saturday.

Best of luck to both teams. I guess my only question is why play teams out of state, when teams in state would be dying to play them? I can understand one game, but this is Alta's second game against an out of state team.

I'm thinking that the Jordan game might be more fun to watch since their team has won their last two games. The Alta game will probably be a blow-out since Taft is 0-2 so far this season. Alta has now played two weak California teams. I knew Crenshaw was going to be a blow-out when Alta showed up with 100 kids dressed ready to go and Crenshaw had 40-50 with most kids playing both sides of the ball.

    Not impressed with this line-up.

Jordan has a practice game saturday with a 3A school. Should have brought in Don Bosco Prep from New Jeresey.....

Alta has a game with traditional power Taft High...that's the better game. Its also why they are playing later in the night, not at 1pm like Jordan vs. Norte Dame....

Wow. Beaker is right - at least about the Jordan team.

Notre Dame is a school of about 850 students in grades 10-12. They are the equivalent of a 3A school, and if you look at pictures you will see they just barely got a new pressbox that looks like something from about 20 years ago.

Taft looks a little more impressive on paper, at least they have a couple of professional athletes (Gabe Kapler, Steve Smith, Jordan Farmar, Hall of Famer Robin Yount, NFL coach Jeff Fisher, and more) and they are a large school that would be 5A in Utah. However I do agree that Alta will spank them.

Alta Dad, Those rankings were pre-season they knew they were bringing in cupcakes. Their ranking are probably even lower now. They should find teams that will make them better. Many Alta fans will think that since they are from California they will be good, but these teams are on the same level as our 2A and 3A teams here in Utah. Go on the internet and look at the picture of the school Atla is playing. I bet your house is bigger than their school.

calm yourself Binghamalum. Remember big mean rio tinto that hates sojo so much owns Kennecot. Kennecot is what really established most of that part of the valley. Maybe rather then the hatred show a little gratitude to the company that made it so there was a need to make a Bingham High school 100 years ago.

Could Alta and Jordan pick any easier teams to play.

Alta is playing a team that is 0-2 and is ranked around 2,500 in the nation.
Jordan is playing a team that is ranked 3,767 in the nation and 91st in the state of NJ. Really? Delta High School is ranked higher than them at 3,567. Save your money. Checkets has already screwed us over enough.

Like the Stadium or not, it will be fun to watch some more games in a bigger setting. Fun for the kids, good experience for all the teams Saturday. It would be nice if these promoters could put something together like "The Mission Viejo Classic" and get 4-6 more local teams involved.

El Gordo, I am also one who has never been to Rio Tinto. I hate soccer! This will be the first "real" reason for me to go watch something decent at that stadium. Because I am in agreement with plyxply - waste of taxpayer money!

I generally enjoy reading your posts, as for the most part they are well thought out. However, since you haven't paid for any of Rio Tinto, nor have I, maybe you can drop that rant.

Because Rio Tinto people dont care if anyone knows about it, only the people who are in Sandy,

Rio Tinto is the selfish business that wont allow Bingham to play at there school, and you can say what you want, they just dont want there boys who go to Alta and Jordan, and Brighton to lose at this place. Could have a full on sell out but nope, you push up the price for the So Jo boys if they wanna play there, but no you let Jordan and Alta Fly other teams in to beat up on who are not going to be any good.

    Nice Class Rio Tinto People.

Good luck to both teams. Utah will be well represented. Why am I out of town for this? Didn't hear about it till this week. More publicity! Is it televised?

good luck to both Alta and Jordan this week, they should both be decent games and I'd expect both teams to win. Jordan is solid and Alta's already proven what they are capable of when the play well.
I'm also glad that there is a football game to go watch at the stadium we were forced to pay for by our governor and legislature, it will the first time I step foot in it and I'm curious to see what we've been paying for all along.
