Kyle is the man! Great guy! We need more solid guys on the BYU team like Kyle.

Yes, the Utah games was awful (understatement), but there's still nine games left in the season and a chance to show people the Cougars can indeed rise from the ashes.

There may not be a conference title or BCS bowl to play for, but the Cougars can still play for passion and respect.

These next two games will be crucial to see how the Cougars pick themselves off the ground. UCF (University of Central Florida) is from Conference USA and currently has a 2-1 record. They'll be a good test for the Cougars, especially with one less day to prepare. The following week is Utah State, a game the Cougars must be hungry to win considering their awful lose in Logan last season.

If BYU can win these two games, that would be a big shot in the arm for their momentum. Especially as you look down the schedule at their future games:

    at Oregon State

    at TCU

    at Hawaii

    Go Cougars!

@obi-jon kenobi -- or instead of jumping over it in an effort to fool us into supposing that he was trying to jump on it like a real football player would.

I hope another thing that was covered at Monday's team meeting was how to properly fall on a ball that you've fumbled rather than trying to pick it up and be a hero. That alone would have kept 14 Ute points off of the scoreboard.

Ute fans here, Thanks for the nice comments. I suppose one silver lining is you guys handed it too BYU so well that there were no nasty comments in the hours/days after the game ended for the media to exploit.

I'm sorry you guys have people like Chris B. you have to put up with. LOL.

Congrats and I hope you go far this year.

Good interview, Kyle handled it very well and I like that the team had meetings on monday. I hope saturday was a wake up call for the team and that they come out ready to play on friday. I will be at the game so looking forward to see how they respond. Van Noy is a great player and the great thing about it is he is only a sophomore, its gonna be fun to watch him play and continue to develop.

It's too bad that the Jim Rome Show is so terrible, I would have loved to hear Van Noy's interview. 90% of Rome's show is his attempting to be funny, and little about sports, so I've tuned out for quite a while, but maybe I can find the clips on ESPN's website.

I agree with Go Getter. Enough talk. Practice, practice, practice for the players. Prepare, prepare, prepare for the coaches, as long as it takes to get it right. If the coaches have to bring cots into their offices and work all night, so be it. Just be ready for the next game. No more embarrassments. Go Cougs!

I appreciate your comment because this game truly was a shame. No true sports fan wants to see a rivalry game (especially of this caliber) turn out this way. Both the fans and the teams involved should and do want their team to beat their rival when they are at their best. While credit is and should be given to Utah, BYU clearly wasn't at their best. I think many people agree with me when I say, I wish this game could be played over again. I know I would want to play the game again if the roles were reversed and the Utes had struggled. Because as both sides have experienced so many times, nothing says rivalry like a heart-thrilling last second victory!

I was just finishing my grid picks for this week and I had UCF over BYU. However, now that Kyle was on the Jim Rome show and got some of that "Jungle Karma" I may just have to change that pick. Hmmmmm, I still may wait and see if a UCF Kyle gets on the show before they play. Decisions, decisions....

If I were BYU, I would stop with all these interviews and press conferences and start focusing for the game, it's Friday and not Saturday. Don't let the players talk in interviews after a terrible start to the season like this is. Make sure that PLAYING football is the most important to them, not TALKING about it *cough* Jake Hypes *cough*.

There should be some serious reevaluation of priorities down there. And The coaches should not be leaving at 6, they should be staying til 9 or later preparing and strategizing.

Well said motorbike -- it's Ute fans like you who I am more than fine talking to, and congratulating after a great win like you guys had Saturday.

This is the 2nd BYU-related article on which I've seen Chris B spewing forth his anti-BYU rhetoric. I'm loving it -- I'd take haters over apathy any day of the week. Keep reading and commenting on all the BYU articles, cause that means they'll just keep on coming! :) Go Cougs!

Kyle is a fantastic athlete! End of story, if you argue with that you don't appreciate college athletics and NEVER played a down of football that was organized. As for the roller coaster he mentions, he is correct, they are in for one heck of a roller coaster ride based upon how they played last Saturday. Unfortunately, the remainder of BYU's schedule is suspect, thus we will never really know if the "bounced" back. Kyle, there is still hope, transfer to the U.

I truly love his comments about the rivalry. Similar sentiments were made by John White of Utah. Very few schools get to enjoy a rivalry as intense and spotlighted as Utah/BYU. If you take a step back away from it, it's plain fun. I'm a Utah fan, but I hope the rivalry never ends and never gets interrupted.

    @Chris B,
The Ute fans I knew started off taunting BYU, but by 8 minutes left in the 4th quarter, even they were feeling bad for the cougs and stopped the taunting (yes, it was that bad). Just goes to show that yours is a different ilk and shade of red, I suppose.

You are not a real Utah fan if your dislike for byu doesn't parallel your passion for Utah. You clearly weren't at the game Saturday. It was AMAZING! I got a ticket last minute. Being in the middle of the red sea was unbelievable as we taunted little brothers the entire game.

    Superconferences are forming.

byu will be left out and essentially become a DII program.

    I can not wait.

    It will be priceless.

    Chris B,

You continue to embarrass REAL Ute fans. You're just a Y hater and I wish you could silence yourself once in a while.

Bottom line is Kyle Van Noy is SPECIAL! I wish we had him up on hill. Sounds like he represented the Y well today and did so with some tougher questions after a humiliating loss.

Way to go BYU for getting this guy to Provo.

Van Noy is a class act. Glad he got interviewed by Rome.

Also glad to hear some meetings were held to get heads on straight.

As I'll be able to make a rare appearance at a BYU football game this week, I'm hoping the Cougars can bounce back and make a game of it versus UCF.

Not great timing for the interview but Van Noy stepped up. Hopefully the Cougars can step it up against UCF. Go Cougars!

Put Van Noy in at QB. He was pretty much the most passionate one on the field on Saturday. I could tell he wanted to win, and was looking darn good in the first half. Hitting extremely hard.
A lot of interesting things in this interview. I can only imagine how the team meeting went. If you don't have a few team captains screaming something along the lines of "that is not BYU football. You are embarassing yourself and all the people I looked up to as a kid." then something is wrong.

Also call Utah "that team up there", nice. I wonder where that came from (tic)?

He is darn good. Too bad he can't get the rest of the team to play to his level.

  • Chris B Salt Lake City, UT
    Sept. 20, 2011 1:45 p.m.

Van Noy is a an athlete, which is uniqe for byu. Might only be 4-5 other true athletes on the entire team.

Which is why the team is 1-2.

    Headed for 1-4.

    And lost to Utah

And isn't getting a BCS invite.

And won't be going to a BCS bowl this year.
