Utah CAN compete. They've been close to winning every game THIS SEASON.

Bronco wouldn't be half as successful when forced to play all those teams you mentioned week in and week out.

The Utes are due. So whether by the hand of Wilson, or Schulz, the Trojans will still be forced to bring their best game.

You know I'll be watching. And I know you and the rest of Coug Nation will be, too. Good luck with the Idaho Broncs tonight.

    Samurai Jake

    [Utah} Cannot compete? True

Kyle has a losing record versus the PAC 12.
Bronco has a winning record versus the PAC 12.

Kyle is 12-17 versus PAC 12 teams, including a home loss to 10-loss Colorado.
Bronco is 9-8 versus PAC 12 teams, including wins over Oregon(1-0), Oregon St(2-1), UCLA(2-1), Arizona(1-2), Washington St(2-0) and Washington (2-0), a team Utah has never beaten (0-8).

The Utes haven't beaten the Trojans in the Coliseum in almost a century and USC isn't going to allow a backup QB to beat them in their own house.

Our 0-4 royal blue bros have seen fit to offer their commentary! lol

Cannot compete? The Utes have been in every single game against elite PAC 12 competition. Too bad cougar nation will never get to watch byu try and compete against the likes of OSU, UCLA, Stanford, Zona, SC, ASU, all in the same season.

Brother Bronco, best of luck against the Idaho Broncos.

Here's to my Utes putting on a show in the Coliseum!

Mormon ute, The answer to your question is.................Uhhhh NO. They cannot compete.
They are in over their heads and should return to the MWC. Basketball will be no better.

    "Utah (BCS team) = $60"

Nice try, but tickets for the BYU-Texas game were selling for FOUR HUNDRED 60 dollars.

btw, at $60 x 20,000, BYU makes $1.2 million more when Utah visit LES, than Utah makes when BYU visits that tiny stadium on the hill.

The Utes haven't beaten the Trojans in Los Angeles since 1916 - guaranteed, there's not person alive who remembers that game.

YOu guys are basing SC as weak from one game? They won right? You guys played Montana State it should be yourselves I would be worried about. USC is going to use his game to get back to form.

I'm wondering if R.A.W. is sour about the Beavers losing to Sacramento State and the Ducks to LSU....

"Umm Utah looked mediocre against an FCS opponent.
USC looked mediocre to a BIG10 opponent.
BCS status makes all the difference in the world to you Ute fans right? "

    Two corrections.

1- Utah looked mediocre against a good FCS team, while USC looked mediocre against a struggling Big10 team (just as a certain team down south looked mediocre against a struggling SEC team).

2- BCS status--actually lack thereof--makes a difference to your cougies, too. It certainly affects who you've got coming into LES this year. You should be properly grateful you have one BCS team to watch there. Your athletic administration is grateful, as the per-game ticket price disparity suggests:

Idaho State (FCS team) = $12
    Utah (BCS team) = $60

It would be cool if all these BYU fans would actually comment on the content of this really cool article instead of nay say. Don't you guys have your own set of problems to deal with this week?
Great article, I hope something is done like this every week to give us readers a refresher on teams we have not played in a while.

I think this Saturday's game will be pretty close. Utah didn't play very well on Thursday which had me pretty worried at first. Then I saw how mediocre USC looked while barely beating Minnesota, which is certainly no better than Utah. Go Utah!

I really liked those uniforms we wore back in the '93 Freedom Bowl. That "drum and feather" sported on the sleeves were awesome. I love the "classic football" styles we wore back when I was in high school. Wish we could go back to that, and maybe actually wear "crimson" rather than that bright scarlet we've been sporting for as long as I can remember.

Cougs and Utes both need to improve on offense if they are to get W's this weekend. Hopefully, they'll both find their mojo and meet in LES on Sept. 17 as undefeated opponents.

USC is not as strong as I thought they'd be. They did not look like a Top 25 team in their win against the Gophers. They are definately beatable, even if the Utes are not clicking on all cylinders yet.

Texas looked like two different teams. The team that played in the first half reminded me of last years' 5-7 team. The team that played in the second half look like the traditional Texas powerhouse. BYU's D will be tested, especially the DB's with Texas' star WR returning.

I'm excited for this game to get some real answers to the questions about the Utes offense. This should tell us if we really can compete in the PAC 12 this year.

Hopefully the Utes will be able to complete a 180 degree turnaround and play a solid game this Saturday. KW will have an extra two days to work his magic and USC is definitely beatable this year.

I can honestly say I'm rooting for BYU and Utah this week. Even if the absolute worst should happen in Provo the following week, I would love to see both teams undefeated going into that game with the Utes getting a big bump by winning two in a row on the road. That's a lot to ask for, but that's why neither team is in the MWC anymore. Good luck to both and thanks for a good article, Mr. Sorenson. I'd like to see this kind of history lesson for every Ute contest this season. It's really fun to relive the memories.

Interesting history of the Utes and Trojans rivalry! I think the Utes fared pretty well, but it was it's history of name changes that intrigues me more. Thanks for sharing. Go Cougs! Go Utes!

It seems the regular season tradition has USC blowing out Utah year after year. Is this a tradition that the Utes want to keep going?

Well, closer games, including a win, in later year bowl games. Maybe that's something to hang a hat on.

Good luck this weekend, Utes. Maybe an undefeated Utah and undefeated BYU can meet the following week for some national exposure and headlines.

    Here's hopin'.
