@aggieblue "Please take Montana State off and give the aggies a chance."

Sounds good to me. The Aggies can play the U on Sept 1 and then Auburn on Sept 3. I'm only assuming that your game with Auburn was scheduled before Iowa State dropped the U from their schedule and the U got Montana State instead. Possibly USU was contacted about a game. I am also assuming that you would prefer to play Auburn over the U and would have not been happy had that game been dropped to play the Utes.

I hope games with USU are scheduled in the future.

Why are we even talking about why USU gets to play on espn or how many nationally televised games Utah and BYU have? The point is that Aggie fans will get a chance to watch their teams first game in HD with decent announcers. I am tickled. It might be slaughter, but who knows. I for one wish I could have watched last years season opener against Oklahoma and we didn't win that game.

Really who cares about what channel? All Utah's ganes will be on television.

@kam, and they were all on television last year too. It's just that not too many people get The MTN, or whatever channels you're on this year. You can always listen to the game on the local radio station.

Congrats Aggies. Score a big one and take Auburn out.

I love how every Utah fan on here brings up the Rose Bowl!

You have to win to get to the Rose Bowl. I'd just count my blessings that I didn't have to take another two losses to Stanford and Oregon this year if I was Utah.

I just wish that BYU would take the Dallas Maverik's blue trimmed in Aggie blue and get over themselves. Hope the U has a great year and realize in a year or two that they should continue with the series with the Aggies. Maybe they could get on ESPN that way.

Nice to see aggies are drinking the same kool aid as BYU. One ESPN game and already they're the second best team in the state because of it.

Aggies think ESPN wants them, not the national champions. Aggies think tv, not wins, is what gets you a game in January. Aggies joining forces with the mid major down south, when just months ago BYU they went behind USU's back and backed out of the WAC deal... which cost aggies a spot in the mwc.

There's a reason I didn't go to Utah State. Nice to see my decision has been validated. Their logic doesn't jive with reality at all.

BTW, love the reply from ute4life! Pawns... ha ha ha!!!

Because the game is home to Auburn, it is not through the contract the WAC has with ESPN, it is through ESPN's contract with the SEC. Please stop saying that USU is a pawn to get Auburn on TV, it's just plain ig'nant

Ute4ever: Hey you are on here posting, why?

So is all that "bcs money" going to buy u a top flight team or is it players. Look at the recruiting Anderson is doing with a measly litte wac team. You speak of Rose bowl, etc, seems like you are playing the u for a lower than first place in the lowly south pac.10.2. Remember USC can't win because of eligibility problems. You can hope by default you get there. Remember also you have to be winning 6 games. Lot of "ifs" out there.

Honestly, why doesn't u play the Aggies when Oklahoma, Auburn and others do?, got an anwer? Please take Montana State off and give the aggies a chance.

The aggies will do fine, could catch the auburn team off guard.

    Go aggies

Oh and I just noticed that of the first four posts of this article there was one thing mentioned about the utes and nothing concerning the cougars before you came on an aggies board to start ignorantly bashing the cougars amazing tv deal. That really doesn't warrant a need for you to come on an aggies board to start bashing the cougars tv deal.

  • WIRMY Roy, UT

wac or utah state tv rights have nothing at all to do with this game. Your byu/pawn theory doesn't make any sense. Every real college sports fan knows that the tv rights fall upon the tv contract which belongs to the home team unless it's a neutral site game. Therefore this game has been picked up by espn due to espn's affiliation and contract with the sec.

aggieblue: I come on here and comment because of the 17 comments made on this article, 5 of them are aimed at Utah fans. Can you tell me what BYU and USU fans obsession with Utah fans is all about?

Finally...money talks. How much is USU's ESPN deal worth. How much is BYU's deal worth? How much is Utah's worth. No comparison. Cougar and Aggies ALL wish they could be where Utah is right now, and the only ammo they have to shoot holes in what Utah has is the number of times they appear on ESPN.

Take your # of appearances on ESPN and enjoy the Emerald Bowl (BYU) and no bowl (Aggies), Utah will take the Holiday Bowl (thanks BYU for building this one up so a real conference could take ties to it), Alamo Bowl, or the Rose Bowl and possible PAC12 championship games.

TV Rating for USU vs Auburn - rated U (ugly) depending which team gets beat! Remember that Michigan lost to Appalachian State at Ann Auburn stadium - who knows.

  • Duckhunter Highland, UT
    June 3, 2011 10:26 a.m.

Uh ute4ever the home team is the one whose tv contract decides if a game will be shown. The usu/auburn game is at auburn therefor it is auburn's tv contract that gives espn the right to televise the game not usu's.

It is always amusing to see ute "fans" expose their ignorance on these boards.

Is ESPN really wanting to show off their middle of the WAC team... or is it just so they can get some awesome ratings by showing the defending National Champs home opener?

    June 3, 2011 9:43 a.m.

hahahaha ute4ever, nice try justifying the lack of coverage for the Utes. Regardless of how you want to spin it, Utah State offers ESPN more than Utah does, period.
You keep telling yourself it doesn't matter that your Utes got stuck on Versus while USU and BYU get games on an actual network that draws viewers like ESPN and ESPN2, hahahaha. Go Aggies!

  • AggieLuva South Jordan, UT
    June 3, 2011 9:20 a.m.

National TV!!! Already more exposure than the Utes! I will be there and watching the Aggies catch Auburn off guard and beating them with either redshirt freshman QB Alex Hart, or a JC transfer Adam Kennedy. What an amazing game to start your career off with a bang. I am willing to bet this game will be a lot closer than people are predicting. With Turbin back, Wagner and Gallager in the middle on D, the stars are starting to align!

    Go Aggies!

Why is it you come on an Aggie article and talk about BYU, get over it and pretend you are in the bcs. USU has 2 games, u verses, you are having a difficult time convincing yourself that you are the best in the state. 3rd now and counting. Look at the recruiting Anderson is doing, Aggies are on the rise and you and all utes know it.

Basketball and now football. Do we play the utes this year? No. Next year? No. How about replacing Montana state with the Aggies?

    Go Aggies

The WAC ESPN contract uses the WAC teams as pawn too so they can get the likes of USU to play teams that demand national audiences (SEC teams) but for which ESPN has no rights to. ESPN has been doing it for years....its their only way to get these teams on their channels.

Now you see ESPN use BYU as a pawn in the same way. They put on this dog and pony show saying they are proud to partner with BYU, but in reality they are just happy to have an independent which they can use to set up games with the teams ESPN doesn't have contracts with but that they want to show. Pawns BYU, that's all you are.

  • KamUte South Jordan, UT
    June 3, 2011 7:20 a.m.

Really who cares about what channel? All Utah's ganes will be on television, and anyone in the world will have access to all Utah's games. Utah has full access to bcs games and nc games. Utah State has better access to a bcs game than BYU. Now that I mention iit, all of BYU's home schedule has more access to a bcs game than BYU. When BYU loses any game, they are out of contention for a great bowl game. Utah could lose a few games and still go to the Rose Bowl. Truth.

Wow, this news has got to infuriate all them PAC10.2 Ute fans, that even the Aggies have 2 appearances on ESPN...dang Ute fans, what are you going to do? Both of your in-state rivals are on National TV playing SEC opponents on the ESPN, and all you got is Versus against your new hand the feeds your "dependant" selves, has got to make you all feel insignificant...it must stink to be a UTE fan right now...the Non-AQ big and little brothers are getting more publicity...wow, we wished we could join the PAC10.2 and be insignificant like U...so sorry boys...

    "BYU is just a pawn"

Thus saith the little girl whose team has just sold their souls to join a corrupt organization that six months ago they professed deep seated enmity for; and did so for the right to eat merely the table scraps from Troy and Oregon.

Havent you guys figured out that the only reason you are there is they needed two teams for a title game but they wanted patsies that they knew they could roll year in and year out?

Pawns we may be, but U are the ones that got played.

Good luck Aggies. And good luck to whoever plays the team down south that weekend.

    June 2, 2011 4:15 p.m.

-Auburn lost virtually all their starters last year
-USU should have Turbin, Austin, and Morrison back and healthy
-Beefed up D-Line: Evan Huahulu will play this year at 350lbs, JC transfers Laslike/Lapuaho are 305/290 respectively and good players
-Who ever our QB is will be able to throw better than Diondre Borel
-Bojay Filimoeatu will be a stud at LB
-It's the first game of the year so the Tigers may need a wake up call

Could be a lot more competitive game than people think

  • ute4ever West Jordan, UT
    June 2, 2011 3:47 p.m.

Wow, Utah State gets ESPN time? Does that put BYU on the same level as Utah State (despite the fact USU beat BYU last year)?

Or, is it Auburn that is getting the ESPN attention? If that's the case, I can understand why ESPN also wants to air Ole Miss, Utah, UCF, and TCU this year....all by using BYU and their contract to get these teams on national TV, the same way they are using Utah State's WAC ESPN connection to get an SEC team on their network.

Now BYU's TV situation is becoming clear. ESPN is using BYU to go out and get football agreements with teams ESPN wants to put on their network. BYU is just a pawn.

You gotta be a glass half empty (National TV is great unless you get slaughtered) or half full) If they paly like they did against A&M in 09 or Oklahoma last year it could be a good recruiting tool. Either way I get to watch the Aggies in a season opener. That does not happen often.
