Maybe with Cain in there, he'll actually run with the ball and reintroduce the option element to the offense?

    @anti BCS

That is some sound advice from a cougar troll posting excuses and rants about Utah on a Utah article.

Good news is that no one has to guess, 17-16 is all that anyone really cares about and what will stay in the record books along with 10-2 and 6-6.

Perhaps you will get more sympathy regarding how well your team played on an Independent/WAC-Lite artice.

    "Is the game televised?"

Gotta luv how clueless some bloggers are.

Clue: The New Mexico Bowl and the Las Vegas Bowl are owned by the same company.

    Figure it out from there.

It's pretty amazing how easily Utah fans are distracted. The article is about Cain, so you'd think there would be some kind of discussion among Utah fans about the strengths and weaknesses of Cain and how Utah was going to handle Boise State's defense.

But, no, as usual, Utah fans are demonstrating their BYU obsession.

btw, the records say one thing, 10-2 versus 6-6, but for anybody who watched the game without knowing the records it would have been impossible to guess which team had the better record. In fact, most fans would have assumed that BYU had the better record since BYU was firmly in control of the game until a series of fortunate events late in the game gave the Utes a chance to steal a game they should have lost.

Why not write about how BYU was "unmotivated" to play Utah State because they wanted a better opponent this year? Now that would be a headline!

We will wait to see how the Vagas Bowl plays out instead of using your prediction. Either way, the Utes will benefit from playing a good opponent. Cain is and always will be a class act and I am excited to see him play in his final game with some time to prepare. For the record, he and Wynn have better W/L records as starters compared to your beloved Heaps.

We also already know and don't care much about the Cougars in the New Mexico "Irrelvant and 6-6 team bowl". Is that game on BYU TV or ESPN the Ocho this year like most of BYU's WAC-Lite games next year?

Don't forget Coach of the Year, turning down YBU and 2 ( TWO ) All Americans this year.

UTEMan , SoCalUte and all of the rest of the red blooded commentators & fans--- try to remember that there is only one BYU fan and the rest are all cloned as noted by the lack of originality and the same repetitious remarks.. like " There are no real ute fans only BYU haters ".
Gosh where have we herd that before ?
Cain will do his best and he is to be respected for being a bigger man than any down at the tds. Without a quiver he backed up another QB and stayed loyal to the Crimson and White.
What will happen when Heaps goes down in the second quarter of the Irrelevant Bowl ?
It could happen, and watching Bronco with Anae on the hot plates sure would be worth watching.
Cain will do fine and Utah , in my book is less of an underdog than the 15 point spread.
YBU is favored by 11..let's see who comes closest.
Do the Cougars play this Saturday ? Is the game televised ?
Good Luck Terrance the Ute Alumnus Tribe and students are behind you !!!

BYU beat the same cupcakes Utah did so do tell how they have "momentum" going forward?

The only good team BYU beat all year is SDSU. They couldn't even beat Utah when our offense played horrible in 3 of the last 4 games. In those three games we scored 27 points, 17 on BYUs improved defense.

Cain and Utah have one last chance to save the year, to prove that we are a top 15 team.

  • sammyg Springville, UT

Texas Ute... "Hey Sammy, how are you enjoying your teams 6-6 season so far?"

Glad you asked! I had a little frustration early on. It was a little disappointing to lose 4 in a row but it was those special moments like...

    Utes barely beating AFA
Utes losing the "most historic game played in RES"
Utes losing to ND against a 2nd string true freshmen QB
    Utes almost losing to SDSU
    Utes almost losing to BYU

I watched more Ute football this year than any previous year. It was a natural curiosity and granted, at the expense to simply have fuel to comment on.

Once that AFA game exposed some weakness I felt that the Utes were going to blow it and they did.

As far as BYU I knew it was a rebuilding season. That says it all.

It takes time and now that the Cougars are starting to hit on most cylinders it would appear that BYU has more momentum going forward. I could care less about the negative perceptions of going to the New Mexico Bowl, it's another game and the experience will help the team.

Utes going PAC-12 won't be easy.

  • ogmson Mapleton, Utah
    Dec. 13, 2010 6:23 p.m.

Maybe the dumbest headline in any sports section of any paper today.

What was it going to say?

"Utes have no confidence in back-up QB" ???

Good grief. Why not just write an article about how bad the runnin pukes are going to get their heads handed to them? Why not write about how many ute players will quit before 60 minutes has elapsed on the clock?

In fact, why not write about what strategies Whit is going to try and implement to make up for being the extreme underdog?

And no, Ute fans, don't expect that BSU is going to come out like Alabama did in 08, upset they didn't get a better match up.

In fact Ute fans; just stay away....It's a lot less embarrassing to change channels on the TV than it is to get up and leave early.

So if the utes can keep it closer than a 40 point boise blow out win it is a moral victory? LOL I actually think the utes will only lose by about 28 so you can prepare yourself to celebrate. Maybe you guys can have a parade.

Wow, haven't seen ole Ernest T. Bass in a while, maybe because his boy Wynnie dropped like a rock from that overrated #6 QB in the nation position he had against all those cupcake opponents. Now Cain gets thrown to the wolves against another legit team. This won't be good. Moore was a Heisman finalist and will light up the Utesie secondary. Cain will throw 5 yard slant and curl patterns and handoff to Asiata all game long. No way they come close to winning this game.

Anyway, so tell me how you Utesies have total confidence in a backup QB who couldn't beat out an injured Wynnie all season?
    just wonderin'

    For Truth Machine,
if the utes lose by less than 40, then you have a lot of explaining to do, or we can all just discount your previous comments (and future ones to) as those of a delusional hater.

You can´t even wager a little crow? Then why would anyone consider your comments?

It is because you are simply a hater, which is common point among all these negative posters (principally from BYU fans).

    But at least you responded.

Interesting that the team that ended BSU's big season and methodically beat BYU up in Provo runs a version of the zone read offense (Chris Ault's "pistol"). Ute fans can only hope that with Cain starting Whittingham will be astute enough to now order his offensive guys to put in some reads for Cain.

You would think Utah learned something from the BYU game, in which outside defenders for BYU were ignoring Cain and crashing so hard he could have run forever, if he had been prepared to read them (the way Nevada did with Kaepernick)instead of handing off to Asiata.

Urban Meyer used the read game so effectively with Alex Smith, I just don't get why Utah has gone away from that and basically gone to BYU's stale power spread scheme, unless that's all these offensive guys know at Utah. If Utes don't alter the system a bit for BSU to allow Cain to put some points on the board, this will not be pretty, and that's a guarantee.

People, a Utah win over BSU in LV Bowl is not an upset.

  • afro14 Sandy, UT
    Dec. 13, 2010 12:06 p.m.

I hope Cain has the game of his life. I think the odds of Utah pulling an upset win against a big time opponent are better than everyone thinks. There is no coach that prepares his team as well as Whittingham does for post season play. BSU may well become the next Alabama or Georgia Tech for the Utes.

One last thing for all the Ute haters out there.
    10-2 > 6-6
    BSU > UTEP
Vegas Bowl > New Mexico Bowl

Cain is a great guy but this game needs a strong leader. BSU's defense is very good but there offense is better so thats bad news for us. Utes may come out strong and shock all of us but if they do what they did against TCU this game will get ugly. Best of luck Cain!

It is a geat day to be a Ute when our little zoobie brothers can only talk smack using predictions of another team against us and our future conference. This is actually an article about our backup QB who has been nothing but class since the day he came on campus.

Meanwhile, a few recent stats in the rivalry that can't be predicted or disputed that I don't hear you zoobs talking about.

    10-2 vs 6-6
    17 - 16
    2 out of 3
    6 out of 9
2 BCS Wins - Zero BCS appearances
BCS Conference Invite - Independent and Irrelevant

Thanks for the support little brother. I am sure the Utes will be fine in the PAC-12 and no one will care when you are playng Idaho State, San Jose State, New Mexico State and the rest of the WAC-Lite.

Anyway, I wish luck in your bowl game against national power UTEP and with your 4 game schedule and 8-pack of cupcakes next year.

"...what will [the naysayers] do when Utah ends up with an upset win over Boise?"

Hypothetical question wwookie; kinda like asking what will you do when the sky actually falls?

Utah was supposedly prepared; Wynn was supposedly brimming with confidence; the Utes were supposedly loaded with talent; Utah was supposedly a Top5 NC contender; and look what happened to the Utes at home against TCU in "the biggest game in the history of Utah".

BSU is every bit as good as TCU.

So why should we even suspect that the outcome will be any different, especially with the Utes starting a backup QB?

WIll you promise to come in and make those silly arguments like you did when Utah beat BYU? Blame the refs? the weather?

Anyone have the guts to say what they will post?

Of course not, but the game will be decided on the field and the better team that day will win. The same was true when Utah beat BYU this year and when BYU squeaked by Utah last year.

I feel the same way about certain Utes that only hit the boards to stir up contention. Unfortunately, there can be immaturity and posturing on both sides. Maybe it's because I didn't grow up in it, but I never got all the animosity involved in this "rivalry." I still don't.

In the end, if the Utes do lose, they will still be 10-3 will a lose to a top 10 team. If BYU beats UTEP, they will still only be 7-6 with a final victory over a horrible team, in a horrible bowl game. In other words, nobody cares!

Well Utesies, in just a few days your dream of a season will end in another nightmare beatdown. Not exactly what you had hoped for is it?

From an 8-0 hope for a BCS game, maybe an NC bid, to this! I hope the Utes can put up some kind of an effort to save face but frankly I doubt it will happen.

Good luck Utes. Win and the insecure trollers go away. If it's a loss, well keep it close, play well and hope no one gets hurt.

There's a good reason Whit decided to replace Cain with Wynn just before the Utes faced TCU last season.

    Nothing has changed since then.

Utah didn't have any answers for TCU this year or last year and BSU is every bit as good across the board as TCU.
