Jimmer Fredette is the best PG in the Country and is in running for National Player of the year and a high 1st round draft pick in the 2011 NBA draft but he needs to start averaging more than 28-29 minutes per game to compete with the few players who are ahead of him in scoring, they are getting nearly 10 minutes more playing time per game. Let him play!!!!! Can't penalize him because BYU is blowing everyone off the court!!!! Dave Rose made the comment "I don't want to mess up an All American, never had 1 before" That will happen if he keeps holding Jimmer back!!!!

back @ dustman. I never said you were a Ute now did I? I was just using that as example. Have you ever seen teams excited to win a game or two? I have. Plus it can't hurt with their recruiting. No one ever sets out to take "32nd place". But it sure beats 64th place. Let's talk again when your team wins it all.

Most teams in Division I play a creampuff pre-conference schedule. BYU is no exception. Mississippi Valley State? What's that? I honestly don't think those games should be counted. If MVS is Division I, then Division I should be re-evaluated. I don't believe in Division I teams padding their records prior to conference schedules. I don't care if you have to be a road warrior to schedule the mainstream teams or not. Do it for the sake of creditability for your program.

BYU, please recruit some beefy players who can guard people.

    Go of luck this season.

We'll see a lot more Ute trolls this year on BYU hoop stories considering there is nothing you can say with a straight face about Ute BB.

"But really, if you can't beat Duke, or any other power house, in the second round, you're not gonna beat them in the finals. So what's it matter?"

It matters because teams that might be better than those middle of the road teams from the power conferences don't get as much of an opportunity to prove themselves by advancing farther into the tournament because they always have to face teams like Duke instead of Providence in the 2nd round.

It's nice to dream, but every somewhat reasonable fan knows that there are only a handful of teams each year that have a legitimate chance of winning the national championship.

That doesn't mean a team can't be very successful shooting for a more reasonable goal of advancing to at least the Sweet Sixteen to demonstrate that they're one of the best teams in the country.

With over 300 Division I basketball teams, finishing in the Top 16 in basketball is a much greater accomplishment than finishing in the Top 16 in football, where only 120 teams compete.

    Live Hard

"I'd take Wyoming's schedule over a powder puff schedule BYU's playing..."

You need to get out more, Live Hard, because you really do live in a dream world if you think this:

    Kean W 92-58
    at Northern Colorado L 53-67
    North Florida L 60-76
    Western Ill. W 64-55
    at (11) Missouri L 62-72
    at Providence
    at South Dakota
    Indiana St.
    at UC Irvine
    Western St.
    Wis. Green Bay
    Kennesaw St.
    at Houston Baptist

    Is better than this:

    Fresno St. W 83-56
    Utah St. W 78-72
    Chicago St. W 109-60
    Miss. Valley St. W 86-36
    at South Florida
    at Creighton
    at Vermont
    at UCLA
    at Weber St.
    at Buffalo

How many DII and DIII teams does Wyoming expect to count in their record this year?

Wyoming is already the only team in the MWC with a losing record, and the Cowboys have only played one legitimate team so far.

    @ Live Hard
You're comparing hoops to football now. Even with two starters out you couldn't beat North Florda. WOW. As for your suspension comment...I have a few words for you:
O'Neill Chambers AND Harvey Unga just two name two.

Please don't come out here and spew hatered, when you don't have your facts in order. So WYO has played AT Tenessee, and has played Texas...BYU will play TX next year, and our OoC schedule is as competetive as anyones.

You're doing a wonderful job of keeping hate alive. Bring Fennis Dembo back!!!

"I'd take Wyoming's schedule over a powder puff schedule BYU's playing..."

Really? Your pokes lost to North Florida by 16. Isn't that like playing North Idaho college, or North Dakota? When was the last time you had a home/home in football with someone other than the MEAC?

I am sure your comments will still linger long after the Y is gone because you have to hate the Y. It's in your nature.

Face it, no one cares about WYO, and you know it.

Fresno State, Utah State, S. Florida and St. Mary's or Texas Tech is a very respectable way to open any schedule. With UCLA and Arizona on the horizon. Yeah there are a couple of gimmies sprinkled in there but every team does that.

    Some comments are simply unintelligent.

@Triple B: I'm just saying...who goes to the tourney without the goal to win it? "Gee, I hope we get 32nd place coach!" If all you're concerned about is making passed the second round, that's probably the best you'll do. Tourney play is fair. By the way...I'm not a "Ute."

@ dustman. So are you saying that the year the Utes played KY in the finals they might as well have just lost in the first round and been just as happy about it? I wonder why I always hear about that great run they had to the finals even though they didn't win it.

It means something to make it to the sweet 16 or elite 8. Please don't pretend that it doesn't.

Each weekend of the tournament is a season unto itself. The most upsets happen in the first game of the weekend (Thursday / Friday) - because good coaches have a chance to prep for that game (See Rick Majerus' record in the first round). The next game the better athletes usually (usually - not always) win. So if you are going to knock off an athlete laden team with a mediocre coach (so in this case Duke doesn't qualify) then you are better off playing them in the Sweet 16, not the 32. That is why it matters.

"The Delta Devils closed to within 37-10 at the half..." That has to be the biggest understatement of the article. It makes it sound like the Devils were mounting a furious comeback.

This certainly was a lock down, beat down win. Seriously when you beat a team by 50, the angle you take is to talk about the cold shooting? That's your emphasis? How about this lead, "The Cougars started cold but that didn't keep them from turning up the heat."

BYU will end the season ranked in the top 20. Then will promptly be placed in the East as an #8 seed playing the Thursday / Saturday game and play Duke in the second round. It is how the NCAA tries to punish BYU for not playing on Sunday. Look back at BYU's tournament history if you want proof. Even if they get a higher seed, the tournament committee will put them up against some tradition power that is playing very well and matches up very well against the Cougs.

Strength of schedule or not, this is how it goes. Every year. It is a shame really.

  • CG Orem, UT

Live Hard should be more concerned with Wyoming's dismal 2-3 record against this laughable schedule:

    Kean W 92-58
    at Northern Colorado L 53-67
    North Florida L 60-76
    Western Ill. W 64-55
    at (11) Missouri L 62-72

There's a good reason Live Hard NEVER tries to talk smack about his own team.

I suggest we simply ignore the inane comments from the clueless peanut gallery.

BYU did indeed get off to a cold shooting start in the first 10 minutes, but their defense was solid and when the Cougar shooting did warm up, they blew out to a 30-point lead at the half and a 50-point win with most of the starters sitting the last 10 minutes of the game.

This is still a relatively new team putting a lot of new pieces into place. Abouo and Davies are both struggling to make shot and Anderson is his same old clumsy self on offense, but all are playing with intensity.

South Florida of the Big East will be a stiffer challenge.

    Wrong board you ute trolls

Yes Miss Valley St. was part of 4 game tournament and yes they did lost to Georgia by 2, 70 to 72. The next 8 games will be road trip which won't be easy (two of them at Energy Arena).

Now go play in your own backyard and stay their you trolls.

Newsflash to my uneducated friends above; these last two games are part of a tournament. (And the team we just beat by 50 lost to Georgia by 2 in the last seconds.)

Now getting past the comments from the peanut gallery, this was one weird game. Neither team could make a basket for their lives for 10 minutes. Then, like a switch being turned on, we ran them off the floor and smothered them with defense. We scored 8 points the first 10 minutes and then 76 points the next 30. Defensively, we were .01 seconds from holding them to the lowest point total in the history of the Marriott Center for a half. They scored a basket as the buzzer sounded to get to 10 points for the first half.

Funny game to be at. Glad it gave the clown patrol something to whine about.
