Great column Lee. There are those on both the extreme right and left of Matheson who still harp about what he has done wrong. Yet the majority moderates keep sending him back to Congress. Thank God for moderates still in Utah.....

I think he realizes how close the margine of victory was. I voted for him because he's an INDEPENDENT voice (at least somewhat). So people/parties in Washington have to TRY to get his support. They don't just get it because of the letter by their name.

If he goes back to Washington and becomes a rubber-stamp for the Democrats... he won't last long in Conservative Utah, where he has to return and ask for our votes every 2 years to get our permission to return to Washington to represent us.

Good luck in Washington Congressman Matheson!

If we're lucky Salt Lake County will be split 4 ways in 2012. ;)

@Hellooo..most of the people in Utah that are on the "public payroll" are Republicans..just look at the super Majorities in the state house and senate.
Matheson is NOT left or moderate..his voting record on Major legislation is less than 42% with the "social misfits " as you name call us..It amazes me that even after the wingers win in major elections, they are still angry and resort to name calling.

Lee as you can see from the first two comments on this thread if the Repubs make the 2nd District into just SLC, Mr. Matheson will not survive the Democrats primary. He is left and moderate in what has become an extremist party of social misfits, financial reprobates, and those on the public payroll.

Matheson's victory is not anything to get very excited about. Matheson now returns to a congress controlled by the GOP, not the leftist Pelosi and company. The message across the country, whether some Democrats won or not, was "we're sick of this nonsense and we're not going to tolerate it anymore. So Matheson better wake up and start representing Utah, Utah values, and the Utah voters. His record in the past has been in line with the California Bay Area, or far left liberals from anywhere. Matheson voted for every spending bill, every national debt increase, every gay/lesbian bill, and every other far left cause. He was elected from Utah, and he better wake up to that fact or his political future ends in 2012.

Matheson is his own man, just like his father. A good man.

    Matheson is no Democrat.

That is because he is a Republican. He'll do anything, say anything to get elected. Not inspiring.
