the last president to truly run a surplus was Nixon in 1969. Gross federal debt INCREASED very year under slick willy. And he shut down the government THREE TIMES because the repub congress didn't want to spend as much as he did. If anyone deserves credit for bringing the budget closer to balance, it was the repub congress. Too bad they lost their way under bush.

And why should we not be outraged at BO's trillion dollar + deficits. bush's average deficit when he had a repub congress was $470 billion, when he had a dem congress the average deficit was $767 billion. BO's deficits have averaged over $1 trillion? BO's deficits were THREE TIMES as large as bush's.

in 1993 slick willy wanted $50 billion in stimulus spending; congress would not approve it - the economy recovered. BO got his $800 billion porkulus, and the economy is floundering. We may have walked 8 miles in, but in two years BO's taking us further into the forrest than bush ever did.

If the current budget holds by the end of Obama's administration he will have added more to the national debt than ALL previous presidents combined.

Blaming past presidents for his own spending spree is childish and irresponsible.

From the article: "Obama says the most frustrating part of his presidency is that he had to keep spending money and adding to the deficit in his first six months in office "to save the economy." He has from the start called deficit reduction a goal, but one that had to get bumped in favor of sparking the economy."

Cutting spending like going all out to pass a government takeover of health care, which 68% of the nation did not want. Something he sold as cutting health care costs but will most likely end up more than doubling costs. Mostly because it created whole new government organizations to administer and create more beauracracy which drives prices higher and actual quality of health care lower.

And all of this while charging up a "stimulus" to our grandchildren that did nothing more than bail out his buddys in the banks.

Now Obama says he is really fiscally conservative?

    Right. Vote the bums out.

Isn't this what is happening in France, Spain, Greece, England and other countries that are learning the tough economic realities that they cannot pay for all the entitlements they have established! Maybe, just maybe Obama has seen our future in Europe and it isn't a good thing! Either we do as Europe is doing and cut spending or we will face economic ruin. Kind of hard for Obama to admit tripling the deficit and expanding the national debt by almost $4 trillion in less than two years was a really bad mistake!

There will always be those like Wildcat from Ogden who want to blame Obama's failures on Ex-President Bush. Obama has now been in office 2 years and the voters are going to hold him accountable for the financial mess we currently are in.

    Hey 'Rifleman',

You walk 8 miles into the forest, you're going to have to walk 8 miles out, not 2.

We need look no further than the liberals running California to see where our nation is headed under Obama's leadership.

You can believe your right wing lies as much as you want. Obama didn't start us down the road to debt - republicans starting with your good ol Regan did. Clinton has the only surplus in the last 30 years and you all just can't deal with that FACT.

So please, hold your next republican to the fire half as much as you do Obama and we'll be much better off.

Yep - just like he focused on the economy.

Recap - "I am going to spend a trillion of your dollars to prevent unemployment from reaching 8%."

With how he's done - I'd just assume he increase golf from a part time to full time hobby.

Where was the outrage when Bush ran up the debt? Hypocritical to act outraged when Obama runs the debt to keep the economy going and Bush runs it up for an optional war.

The emperor has no clothes and no good ideas. The title of the article is enough to make one sick or laugh. Obama and his crew have done everything in their power to give our grandchildren the debt to end all debts, and now he wants to become fiscally responsible? Give us some adults to lead our country, please.
