I hear many BYU fans saying, "we would be 4-0 with that schedule too!" Ok, I can see that, but if Utah had BYU's schedule they would be at least 3-1. So what's your point BYU fans? Utah would beat Washington, who is every bit as bad (or worse) than Pitt. They would beat Air Force, They would have a good chance of beating Florida State, (they might have lost this one). They would have also beat Nevada. If Utah had BYU's schedule I don't see them any worse than 3-1. Anyone care to disagree? I didn't think so!

    Vegas Ute... Thanks !!
" Nine players with rushing yards, nine players with receptions, and eight touchdowns scored by eight different players."
If you were offensive or defensive coordinator at Iowa State who would you prepare for?
    Reggie Dunn ?
Getting smacked senseless by the wrecking balls of Bird and Blechen ?
Two highly ranked, signal callers and an extremely deep and varied backfield ?
    A defense with a # 6 ranking ?
How does Iowa State prepare for a defense without noticeable flaws ?
What a well played game-- without a penalty for 55 minutes ?. I am impressed with the play yesterday but even more so when I went down the roster and looked into the background of the Ute players. We have a strong, young class coming in as RS Fresh and Sophomores. Being ranked among the top twenty in this part of the year is a real plus and the exposure for the upcoming high school students is prime time for recruits. Just having the University of Utah logo out in the public eye for weeks on end at the beginning of the season is priceless. Utah just continues to build strong, positive credentials and it's really starting to show.

    GO UTES !!!!

Hey I have tried to post several things on the utes and the joke of their schedule they have but the montoring gods don't like it.. then I read the stuff they let slide on BYU from ute fans are you kidding...utes play a real schedule then talk, I am more impressed with Bingaham High and their record than yours.

The yewts will lose one or two games this year and play in the Vegas Bowl. Even if they go undefeated, the yewts don't deserve a shot at the BCS championship due to their weak schedule. Good luck in the Pac-12! Best finish will be 3rd place.

In case you hadn't noticed, the logo on the field at RES is still the MWC logo, which means Utah still ranks behind the independents.

    More Sagarin rankings worth noting:

    Ratings by conference:

    2- PAC 10
    7- Independents
    8- MWC
    9- WAC

Looks like the Utes are heading in the right direction - Up!

    Go Utes! Go Crimson!

    @VegasCoug | 8:54 a.m. Sept. 26, 2010

SOS smack from a BYU fan, really?

Congratulations on a #4 SOS rankings, please no t-shirts.

A couple more new Sagarin SOS ratings:

    #2 San Jose State
    #4 BYU
    #5 New Mexico

    #112 Utah ... AP #13
    #118 Ohio State ... AP #2
    #137 Nebraska ... AP #6

So, at this point ratings as well as rankings are irrelevant but winning by demolishing weaklings) is relevant.

BTW Boise State has a #19 SOS, watch it nose dive with WAC play begins.

@vegasZoob: The tds played the 85th ranked defense, were GIVEN the ball three times in their own territory and could barely manage 13 points. Congratulations on Sagarin SOS ranking, the tds is still horrible. I guess you better get used to losing to WAC teams since they will be filling your "independent" schedule!

Nice job Utes. Whitt was trying so hard to NOT run up the score that I think he cleared out the whole bench. Nine players with rushing yards, nine players with receptions, and eight touchdowns scored by eight different players. The U's talent runs very deep. This was a puff game, but it got a lot of players playing time which bodes well for our future.

Go Utes! Heading in the right direction unlike li'l brothers down south.

Congrats to Coach Whit, the Ute team and the fans that attended the game. Wish I could have been there. Despite playing a clearly inferior team, the utes showed they belong in the top 10. Execution was amazing. A lot of mistakes are getting cleaned up, and when utah makes it to 6 -0, expect ESPN and the other sports broadcasters to start the comparisons to 2004 and 2008. Until then, lets keep perspective.

good thing the ap and coaches polls dont have any voters in provo. Its much better to have somewhat objective voters who are knowledgable about football.

Hard to truly judge where the Utes fit into the top 15, but we can do some comparisons. Wisconson, who is very highly thought of, did not have nearly as big as wins against UNLV and San Jose as compared to the Utes. It will be interesting to see TCU play these teams before Utah matches up with the frogs. The conference champion will obviously be between these two teams.

    "New Sagarin SOS ratings:

    Utah = 112
    BYU = 4"

VegasCoug: of course our Strength of Schedule is low, we're playing BYU. If BYU could play themselves, their SOS would be somewhere in the hundreds as well.

Here are some BYU facts that actually count:
    Total offense: 98th (Utes 51)
    Total Defense: 102nd (Utes 6)
    Record: 1-3 (Utes 4-0)
Average score: BYU loses 28-15 (Utah wins 44-12)

Wish I could have seen the game, but I'm in Mexico and only get to see the ESPN games. However it sure sounded good on KALL on the net. Sounded like a well oiled machine running smoothly. Now we just gotta keep turning up the RPM,s until we get to TCU. I watched their game and I watched Boise St while listening to the Utes. They both looked beatable to me. If the Utes can continue executing like they did yesterday and keep oiling the machine TCU will be in for another dissapointment at RES. We have a good schedule that looks like it was systimatically laid out to help the Utes work themselves gradually into a great year, if they just continue to take it one game at a time. Hang in there Utes....

I really wanted to watch the game, but I couldn't find it on TV? I thought that the BCS bound Utes were added to the Pac 10 because of the national interest in their program, but even the mtn. chose to televise UNLV vs. New Mexico? Just Wondering...

Good game Utes!! The TCU game will be a good one.

Most intelligent, rational Cougar fans know when we play in SLC this season it will likely be a loss for the Cougs. But hopefully the Cougar offense is clicking by then so it will at least be another exciting rivalry game.

    Go Cougs and Go Utes.

Ya ya ya. We have been playing cream puffs. But you can still see the progress by way of better execution and fewer penalties. The team continues to improve and it showed last night. The box score was very simular to the #1 team in the country's (Alabama) when they played San Jose State. Utah typically improves and irons out any issues as the season progresses. Utah should peak at the right time when the tougher part of the schedule comes up. When the season is over we can laugh at the nay-sayers (cougar breaths). Go Utes to the PAC12!

  • Utefan Cottonwood Heights, UT
    Sept. 26, 2010 5:09 a.m.

Why is it that little brother nay sayers are among the first to comment on a Utah article? Could it be the despair has set in down in Provo?

Of course, the Utes won easily...this was SJSU...no it was not Nevada...but then the Utes' challenges are ahead in November! By then confidence and experience will greatly aid this team...perhaps had others down south down the same they might not embarrassing themselves by whining on this board.

I was looking for a few things tonight. The penalties were really cleaned up and we stopped turning the ball over. It does feel like we have had a very long preseason. I want to play a team that isn't the worst team in college football. No offense to SJSU, but they are terrible. Go Utes!

It wasn't that much of surprise to see a 56-3 win considering SJSU could BARELY beat SUU last week. A win is a win and we'll see what this team is made of in the next few weeks.

    GO UTES!

  • RealityCheck Sandy, UT

Utes looking solid. As usual most of the media coverage in this market focuses on BYU and their sinking ship, which is great for the U of U because they can continue to take care of business week in and week out and just fly under the radar.

The U will continue to iron out the kinks. This team hasn't even come close to hitting its potential yet, which is a scary thought for the opposition.

Jealousy is such a lonely word! Our last 5 will be tough. I realize that our opponents haven't been tough but it does get tougher from here on out. We've outscored our opponents 179 to 50 so far this year. They simply are taking care of business. Iowa State is going down next. One game at a time.

Thanks for taking care of business MUSS. I showed up late for the game because I went to the byu nevadaa game to catch it in person.

It was great. Nevada's offense did as they pleased all game to that high school defense.
