Having speed in BYU's defensive backfield is like a breath of fresh air. Now if the corners can mix "bump and run" coverage with "drop back" coverage that would translate to pure oxygen.

Hair Thompson just outsmarted himself, he just lost the biggest money maker by far in the conference.

Don't you all get tired of reading the whining back and forth? So sad that every BYU or Utah article turns into this. And "seriously" nobody thought BYU would "loose" to Okalahoma. Some thought they might lose, but once Bradford went down BYU was destined to win no matter how "tight".

Does BYU have a conference yet or are they still trying to figure out exactly how Hair Thompson managed to outsmart the brethren?

Having said that, in all honesty I see this as a close game with BYU dropping by a touchdown.

So big PAC 10 schools like you should have no problem beating us, oh wait, you've only done so once in the last 4 years!
So you're assuming that you'll come in and start winning PAC 10 championships? Well you didn't beat the champ, while a "mid-major" destroys the second place PAC 10 team....
    Oh wait....that shouldn't happen...

"UW belongs to the Conf of Champs remember, therefore, they should have better athletes, and should be able to run and throw all over BYU...after all, we're only a mid-major."

I'm glad you Y fans finally are realizing your place in the national landscape of college football.

Coach Whitt is at 48 coaching wins. It could quite possibly happen that both coaches get their 50th wins on the same day (9/11), (UTES win Thursday, BYU loses Saturday - both at 49 wins). Either way, it's amazing that both coaches hired in same year have near identical records.

I hope we have great defensive speed. The D is key for our season. The offense should be good this year and great next year. Good luck Sark in returning glory to a great school. I hope you never lose to FUN but here's hoping the Cougars rise up and slap you Huskies down. Based on how well Wash is recruiting we better beat them this year.

Don't worry Yewty-tooties, Kwhitt will eventually get to 50 wins....some day.

Just hang in there! It might take until the San Diego St game to get there (he just needs 3 wins to get to 50) but eventually one of these days he'll get there.

I still am not convinced that Locker is a "great" qb, he hasnt shown me that statistically, or in person (I was at the 2008 UW game) That game he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn.

Just because he has good size, great arm strength, and good speed, doesn't make him a great QB (look at Jamarcus Russell, Size, Armstregnth, lousy QB)

    Go Cougars!

The U will find out next year how weak the pac-10 is. Until then we'll just have to wait and see. BYU by 17 over te Huskies. One great qb does not make the whole team go...see alex smith in SF. A great qb with no help.

    @ Chris

I bet you are one of those naysayers who thought BYU would loose to Oklahoma last year too. Oh wait, a typical Utah fan. Washington very well might have more speed then BYU, but last year Oklahoma had a Heisman winning QB and most of their starters, at least on defense, returning and they still lost. It doesn't matter who a team has or how good they are on paper. Every team can have either a good or a bad game; again, that's why the games are played on the field.

Just like how Oregon States speed was gonna kill us right? Or UCLA, or Washington (2008 with a terrible BYU defense) Arizona (2007) as well, or Oregon's dominating speed too(2006)...PAC 10 speed dominates doesn't it?

@ Otis: U fans have been tauting the weakness of the Pac10 as well...nice try there.

As far as Saturday goes, everyone is undefeated, so there are no "places". 8th place last year means NOTHING. UW belongs to the Conf of Champs remember, therefore, they should have better athletes, and should be able to run and throw all over BYU...after all, we're only a mid-major.

I think tds will lose by 21. Whatever "speed" they have won't keep with real speed of the PAC 10.

Coach Bornco should have no problem beating the 8th place team in the PAC 10 at home. Afterall, BYU fans love to comment on how weak the PAC 10 is. It should be no problem for BYU.

    Congrats to coach Mendenhall!

Almost hard to believe that he's going to get 50 wins in one less season that LaVell!

    Good Luck against the Huskies!

    Gooooo Cougars!

Good luck coach on reaching that 50-win milestone this Saturday.

It'll be fun watching all the new, young, but athletic, Cougar talent in live action for the first time -- and seeing all of BYU's great, All-American quarterbacks all on the same field for the first time.
