It looks like Thompson painted the MWC into a corner by inviting FSU and UNR without any plans to increase revenue.

What does he do now, tell the newcomers that they won't get a dime until 2016?

Was there any arrangement made to divide up the pie into even smaller slices?

The MWC may be forced to dissolve the conference and form a new one just to get rid of the MTN, which has been a disaster since day one.

No matter what happens BYU is in complete control of their future. If they take a risk and go independent, and if it doesn't work out, they'll be a shoe-in to join some other conference. I'm Texas is somewhat envious of what BYU is doing...if they'd have had the TV network built out already I'm sure they would have seriously considered independence. BYU is poised to do what will be the norm in the future, a school working out its own TV deals.

WHAT! Why are commenter's bad mouthing this? This could be huge for the Mountain West. It finally means that as long as a mountain west team beats all of the teams on it's schedule, it has a guarenteed BCS spot. Note, you don't even have to be undefeated even. Just win your conference, beat Houston (presumably), and you're IN!!!

If true, this is amazing news for the MWC.

Tom Holmoe exuded about all the friends that BYU had made along the way to help them in their quest for Independence. What he didn't count on is that BYU has made a lot of enemies too. Clearly there are a lot hard feelings that have accumulated over the years going back to the breakup of the WAC.

I believe Bronco wanted to wait for two years to see if the MWC became an AQ. I'm sorry to see that advice was ignored. I think there is a good chance the MWC would have become the 7th BCS conference. If not, BYU could have set up a backup plan for Independence that had a much more solid foundation than this mess.

Craig Thompson was told by the Comcast and CBSC that they will NOT renegotiate thier contract before 2016 and the new markets need to be picked up. I think Craig Thompson is scrambling.

Why so much venom for Dallas! Try reporting, not bashing. Is it any wonder why BYU wants to get away from the hate.

This is what a playoff should be about. All the conference champions playing each other until a clear winner is decided. Form 8 conference and all the champions go to the playoff. This idea at least goes in the direction of the idea of some playoff, so I like it.

Wow, the MWC is stooping for the dregs now. I've always been a MWC nut, but what I'm seeing now from Colorado Springs, is nuts.

Ute fans should love the theme of this story.

Is that the Darth Vader music I hear in the background?

I take back my criticism of Samuelson. If this was the tenner of the meeting I would have announced my departure as well.

Thompson should be Fired for giving CUSA a chance to be on even ground. it has taken too much effort to get the MWC the respect that it deserves. to give it away on a Joint Conference championship game is beyond dumb.

they could have done this with the nine members and it still would not make sense.

they decided to add members. there needs to be a 12th member of the MWC. thank heavens its not Utah State. the MWC will have a Conference championship game. all to its self.

"... when two undefeated Mountain West teams did not meet during the regular season, the league could designate the higher team in the BCS standings as its title game representative."

Isn't that what we HATE about the current BCS standings? That it's not determined on the field but instead it is based on rankings!

Let's squash that bad idea before it even gets started.

Has the CUSA matched the Mt West or WAC? No. The Mt West is once again grasping at straws. Any school with integrity will get out of the Mt West as fast as possible.

A conference playoff game with a 9-5 E Carolina or a 10-4 Houston winning an automatic BCS berth must be thrilling to the BCS.

This arrangement does not make a lot of sense. It sounds more like smack talk by the MTN and maybe the CUSA. What is in it for ESPN? Or the BCS bowls?

Will they add a BCS bowl at Jerry's palace just for the winner of the MTN/CUSA?

Why not just add the bowl and let the highest ranked teams play. That is much more appealing to all of the current BCS teams and gives the non BCS teams more of a chance.

It is a lot less messy and a lot more fair.

CUSA already has a playoff game. They only gain is there is a BCS bid. However, as stated above it is far better for the BCS to add one extra bowl and decide participants based on ranking.
