    Brock Cutler for kicker!

Sorenson is on a mission, but I heard he sprained his ankle while stepping off a curb or something.

Work on the 2-point plays and convert on third downs, and we'll be just fine!

Atually I think BYU will have tougher competition in the MWC.... I think you guys are slipping into a weaker conference but the results will speak for themselves this year.... I am thinking that the PAC 10/12 won't want to schedule the MWC next year which will help make the absence of the Holy War a little less conspicuous.

I actually predict that Utah will do better in the PAC 10/12 than they could do in the MWC next year.

So, for that reaso alone, thank your lucky stars that yougot the invite.

Why do U fans blather on so much on these BYU articles. For supposedly not liking BYU they seem pretty obsessed.

    Hey USportsFan:

Well your youth and my old age has been revealed. BYU beat Pitt in 1984. Pitt won the NC in 1983 than BYU did in 1984.

The past four years does'nt matter. TCU beat both of our teams last year and it was'nt even close. They bring back the same players this year and we'll both lose again. Bank on it. Boise ST. crushed the utes a few years ago and have since improved. They're at the same level as TCU. If Boise ST. were in the MWC this year, we would look like idiots, as we would be fighting Air Force for third and fourth place.

As for the pac-10. They were'nt looking for teams to challenge their elite. No way! That's why Colorado was invited. There looking to have twelve teams to qualify for conference championships. Twelve is the rule and it brings alot of revenue. Utah was just a stepping stone towards that goal. Other than football, what does Utah have? Why would they pick Utah?

    Dear GoUtah-

1984, University of Pittsburg, ranked 3rd in the nation. You are touting playing Pitt opening this year. . . but the Y doing the same thing in 84 is not the same?

    Make up your mind.

But of course, 10 years from now you will be looking to the glory days when you beat Alabama, while sitting in the middle (if you're lucky) of the PAC #? whatever.

Where are you getting your information from? When was the last time BYU played Pitt?
Utah has beat TCU 3 of the last 4, BYU 5 of 8, and has not regularly played games against BSU.
Utah won't be the doormat to the PAC 12 anymore than BYU will be the doormat of the MWC. I would say that both teams are fairly close in competition. You saying that Utah sucks says that BYU is not a very good team comparatively.

But the difference between Utah and BYU is no one forgets a NC! You just wish you had one.

My reply... with the invite to the PAC 12, it will come soon enough. Thanks for caring that much about Utah football.

    * BYU has more victories over Pitt than the utes.
    * The Utes will be the Pac-12's doormat.
    * The utes can't beat TCU, BYU, or Boise ST.and are foolish going to the pac-12.
    * Pac-12 needed a couple doormats to gain money from conference championships. Everybody plays the fool.
    * The utes will never win a pac-10 championship.

GoUtah, it may have been 26 years ago but does Utah have one? You say BYU didn't play anyone of significance but who did Utah play in your Fiesta Bowl year? Anyone of significance? That's right, most people have already fogotton. Ever wonder why Boise State gets all the love and everyone forgets about Utah? Your BCS bowls are just bowls in the end that people forget about. Many people forget that BYU played in the Fiesta Bowl before the meaningless BCS came into existance. Does anyone care? Not really. But the difference between Utah and BYU is no one forgets a NC! You just wish you had one.

You guys are just jealous that Utah is going to be so good this year! You wish you had our nfl calibre players on your team. Wynn for hiseman!

My prediction for 2010: Utah goes undefeated, third BCS game, winning it of course. Wynn and Asiata are the front runners for the Heisman. Tds goes 6-6 and goes to the Armed Forces Bowl. Guaranteed!

"1984 for lifE" is an awesome name. You could also go by "26 year old *NC."

*Beat nobody of any significance in '84 and in no way deserved an NC.

I'm actually a little shocked that Stephenson, being a kicker, or his coach, or his mentor (Payne) didn't see the problem immediately. I can see the problem in this photo, Stephenson is leaning back. If you want elevation on the ball, you must lean forward, over the ball, not back away from the ball. Everyone acts like no one knows what the problem is. Sheesh, this should have been spotted a year ago, fixed, and eliminated.

    Utah Fan2,

What makes you think that Utah will lose to Pitt or any other team? Utes are looking very strong this year. 2 QB's with experience, 2 of the best backs in the conference, a great offensive line, strong TE's that can catch. Then they have a ton of great talent on the defensive end. Utah's kicker is supposed to be the best in the conference.

Wouldn't it be a little funny if BYU ends up losing to Utah 34-31 to end their MWC experience?

You really should change your handle.

    Max for Pres,

How about the Utes beat BYU to the first football win this year? It will happen in 2 weeks and 2 days for the Utes.
How about the Utes beat BYU in head to head football games, scoreboard 53-34.

So, last year wasn't the greatest in Ute history.
10-3 and ranked 18th. We aren't worried. Actually the future is looking bright.

Hopefully BYU finds a good replacement kicker.

P.S. I still can't believe that Kanashiro missed that field goal. I had to go home and watch the replay, in disbelief. LOL

How do you bring up winning and losing football games in the rivalry and not mention if you're a ute fan the 34-31s. And if you're a cougar fan how do you forget my personal favorite: kanashiro pelting the upright two consecutive years almost in the same spot.

  • Utah Fan2
    Aug. 17, 2010 3:18 p.m.

    No worries.

With Heaps' pinpoint passing and Nelson's running, BYU will just score two-point conversions after every touchdown.

The ewe does have worries though.

After losing to Pitt, the season will be over for the ewe.

Five losses in their last six games will have the ewe looking for someone to replace Whit right after he loses his 4th game in 5 years to Bronco.

Utah losses: Pitt, Wyo, AFA, TCU, ND, and BYU.

If the ewe doesn't stumble at SDSU, the ewe may still get to lose to Fresno State in the New Mexico bowl, but at least ewe won't have to play in the Las Vegas Bowl.

Give Stephenson a day or two to practice.. He's a punter now and probably hasnt practiced in a while, but I'm sure he'll be fine.. I watched him kick A LOT of pat's against us in high school so I doubt it will be too tough for him with a little tune-up..

  • Chris B
    Aug. 17, 2010 2:01 p.m.

If they can't even kick PAT's - WOW - should be a fun season to watch for Ute fans. My dream season would be a 13-0 for Utah and an 0-12 for tds. Realistically though I think I might get a 6-6 for tds this year.

What about Orem High product Nathan Killpack? Nathan red-shirted with the team in 2007 after being invited to try out as a preferred walk-on, but then left on a mission after the 2007 season. He has been back from his mission since January.

For such a poor coach he seems to have done ok.

I am sure that Stephenson was shocked and somewhat unprepared when the returning starter got injured.

Stephenson was a solid kicker in high school but undoubtedly worked on his punting rather than PATs this summer.

The kicking game will be VERY IMPORTANT this year. This situation emphasizes the importance of constant preparation.

I hope they have the opportunity to kick many extra points this season. Hey cougar fans, can you think of the last time a BYU kicker won a game since Kurt Gunther in the miracle bowl? I would especially like to know who has won a game with a field goal.
