He points to success of gun background checks
The real issue is the one about the feds sharing info with locals. Doesn't
happen if the FBI is the lead federal agency. 9-11 was supposed to bring big
changes in the attitude of the FBI towards local law enforcement. True they
sponsor a Joint Terrorism Task Force, JTTF, but the information only goes one
way. And that way is not to the local law enforcement agency who could use it.
Why? Because the FBI trusts nobody. Personally, I think the country would be
better off if the terrorism effort was headed by the New York City Police
anti-terrorism unit. Cops work well with other cops. The FBI works with
Albert waterboarding is a trivial matter. I was waterboarded as part of my Navy
flight training. It is very uncomfortable and scares the bejeezes out of you,
but is otherwise harmless, unless you have a heart condition or something.A real issue would be finding out why Ramos and Compean two of our
border patrol agents and public servants, are in prison for 10 and 11 years for
trying to arrest a drug runner. If the truth were known there is probable
prosecutorial malfeasance and may have been carried out due to pressure from the
Mexican government. (that wants to keep the drugs flowing, because it is their
second largest export)Also, if we are going to be sharing all of
this information mentioned in the article, how about the Social Security
Administration sharing information with the Department of Homeland Security on
known illegal aliens working in the United States?
Waterboarding = torture = war crimes!
The trouble with denying gun permits to people with "mental illness" is that
mental illness comes in many forms. A LOT of people have something, even a
temporary stress condition which medication for a limited time and some
counseling can overcome. Who defines mental illness for gun permit purposes? The
government. Who doesn't want people to own guns? The government. A
criminal background means that explicit acts have been committed. A mental
illness check means nothing. Half the people working for TSA will test positive
for some form of it. I'll wager if we dig deep enough, Mr. Mukasey will be
barred from owning a gun.
