I grew up in Chicago and since moving to Salt Lake, I've returned to "The Taste" with my family two times. I highly recommend going for a vacation as you will undoubtedly experience some of the best food of your life.
There are four things you should NOT miss, some of which was mentioned in the article: 1) An Italian beef sandwich: This is a Chicago invention by immigrants that suddenly found beef very cheap (thanks to the Chicago stockyards). If you have never had one, be prepared for heaven on a bun. 2) Chicago pizza: Another local invention that you must taste to understand and appreciate. 3) Fireworks: Get by the shore as early as possible (on a boat if you can swing it), and be prepared to have ash land on you from the sheer amount of explosions. 4) A Cubs game: Even if you aren't a big baseball fan and love some other team, this park is a classic. While you are there you can enjoy another thing Chicago does perfect: A hot dog...Chicago style, of course. Do NOT ask for ketchup to avoid dirty looks from the vendors.
