A handful of NFL prospects were drafted or signed free-agent contracts over the weekend, joining an already impressive list of players with local ties playing in the NFL. Here is a sampling of some of the more notable players with local ties playing in the NFL.

Haloti Ngata, DT, Baltimore Ravens

Ngata is a product of Highland High and was the 12th pick overall by the Ravens in the 2006 draft. He's played in three Pro Bowls, been named All-Pro four times over his career, and is considered by many to be one of the most dominant interior linemen in the NFL — if not the most dominant.

Steve Smith, WR, Carolina Panthers

This former Ute was drafted in the third round of the 2001 draft and quickly became one of the most exciting wideouts in the league. Over his career he's played in five Pro Bowls while being named All-Pro three separate times.

Chris Cooley, TE, Washington Redskins

Cooley was drafted in the third round of the 2004 draft and has enjoyed a very productive career. The former Aggie has been selected to the Pro Bowl twice and has caught 428 passes and 33 touchdowns during his career.

Brett Keisel, DE, Pittsburgh Steelers

The former Cougar wasn't drafted until the seventh round in 2002, but has proven to be a steal by the Steelers ever since. He's been a mainstay on the Pittsburgh defensive front, winning two Super Bowls and being named to a Pro Bowl.

Paul Kruger, OLB, Baltimore Ravens

This former Ute was a second-round draft pick in 2009 and has played a big role within the Ravens' dominant defense, recording 26 tackles and 6.5 sacks over his career.

Paul Soliai, NT, Miami Dolphins

Soliai was picked by the Dolphins in the fourth round of the 2007 draft and is coming off the best season of his career, earning a trip to the Pro Bowl for his efforts. This former Ute has recorded 95 total tackles over his career.

Austin Collie, WR, Indianapolis Colts

Collie is generally considered the best receiver in BYU history and was picked up by the Colts in the fourth round of the 2009 draft. He's recorded 172 receptions and 16 touchdowns.

Brice McCain, CB, Houston Texans

This former Ute has enjoyed a good career since being drafted in the sixth round of the 2009 draft. He's snared three interceptions and recorded 66 tackles so far in his career.

Dennis Pitta, TE, Baltimore Ravens

This former Cougar was selected by the Ravens in the fourth round of the 2010 draft. After a quiet rookie season, Pitta became one of the top targets in the Raven offense last season, recording 40 receptions and three touchdowns.

Koa Misi, LB, Miami Dolphins

The former Ute was drafted in the second round by the Dolphins in 2010 and has enjoyed immediate success, recording 75 tackles and six sacks over his two seasons.

Sione Pouha, DT, New York Jets

Pouha, who played for Utah, has become a vital part of the Jets' defense since being drafted in third round of the 2005 draft. He's recorded 231 tackles and 3.5 sacks over his successful career as the anchor of the defense.

Zane Beadles, OG, Denver Broncos

Beadles, a former Ute, was drafted in the second round of the 2010 draft and has started a 30 games since his rookie season.

Brady Poppinga, LB, St. Louis Rams

The former Cougar has enjoyed a very good career since being drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 2005. He's recorded 293 tackles and five sacks over his career.

Eric Weddle, S, San Diego Chargers

Weddle, a former Ute, has risen to become one of the more accomplished players with local ties in the NFL since being drafted in the second round in 2007. He's recorded 441 tackles and has 13 interceptions in his career and was named as a Pro Bowler last season.

Jarrett Bush, CB, Green Bay Packers

This former Aggie went undrafted out of college in 2006, but has since caught on to play a big role within the Packers' defense, recording 130 tackles and three interceptions over his career.

Sean Smith, DB, Miami Dolphins

The former Ute was an early second-round draft pick for the Dolphins in 2009. Since then he's recorded three interceptions and 145 tackles in his career.

Bryan Kehl, LB, Washington Redskins

The former Cougar was drafted in the fourth round of the 2008 draft by the New York Giants and has since landed in Washington after playing a season for the St. Louis Rams. Kehl has recorded 106 tackles and a sack over his career.

Alex Smith, QB, San Francisco 49ers

The former Ute was long considered a bust after being drafted as the first overall pick of the 2005 draft, but caught fire last season, leading the 49ers to the NFC championship game. Smith has thrown for 12,424 yards and 68 touchdowns over his career.

Jordan Gross, OL, Carolina Panthers

Gross has enjoyed an exceptional career after being drafted as the eighth overall pick of the 2003 draft. The former Ute has been a mainstay at the tackle position since his rookie year for the Panthers and is generally considered one of the top offensive tackles in the NFL. He's been named to two Pro Bowls over his career.
