Fans of comedy, hairstyling, music and more flocked to the UCCU Center at Utah Valley University on Friday and Saturday to participate in CVX Live, Utah's first YouTube convention.

The Creator Viewer Experience Live event was hosted by the creators of Bored Shorts TV: brothers Brett, John, Dave and Randy Roberts, along with their friend Richard Sharrah. The group has found success on YouTube with its "Kid History" series.

The convention allowed fans to meet the Bored Shorts TV creators and the owners of other popular YouTube channels, who are often referred to as YouTubers.

Following a red carpet event Friday morning, during which each YouTuber was introduced, John Roberts said he was satisfied with the turnout.

"Yeah, we’re really happy with it," he said. "You’re always concerned how many people are going to show up, how many people are going to buy tickets, but ticket sales have done really well. The show all came together like we’d hoped it would, for the most part, so we’re really pleased. We’re definitely going to do it, at least in Utah, every year."

During the red carpet event, DeseretNews.com reporters caught up with the stars of many YouTube channels. Find out why each creator enjoys making videos, and read his or her advice for aspiring YouTubers.

What do you enjoy the most about being a YouTuber?

"Just that it’s kind of like a hobby that supports itself. We have lots of hobbies that we can’t really sustain with big families because they don’t pay the bills. But YouTube is kind of it’s own sustaining, fun thing, and we get recognition for doing it, which is nice. When I play basketball and I do really well, nobody cares."

What one tip you would give aspiring YouTubers?

"Just do it. Find something that’s unique. Put it up there. If it doesn’t work at first, that’s fine. Keep trying new things. Don’t quit your day job until it starts working. That would be my recommendation because everybody is doing YouTube now, and they’re not all going to work."

How did you get started making videos?

"Our brother Randy came up with the idea to do the first 'Kid History,' which was going to be a one-off video, and it went viral, so we’re like, ‘Well, should we make a second one?’ Then we’re like, ‘Well, should we make a third one?’ Now we’ve made over 200 different videos."

What do you enjoy most about being a part of the YouTube community?

"There’s a camaraderie among YouTubers, especially among the Utah community. Everybody kind of knows each other, and we help each other out."

How do you feel about your success, and what can your YouTube fans look forward to in the future?

"We’re actually working on a movie for next year. We haven’t announced it yet, so stay tuned. It’s very Indiana Jones meets Jurassic Park. That’s all I can say right now, but it will be epic."

What one tip would you give aspiring YouTubers?

"Quality. Focus much more on the quality of your content, like how it is going to resonate with the audience. A lot of people see big YouTubers get lots of stuff out, and that’s cool, but to really stick out, ... there has to be some sort of memorable thing about you. So I don’t make tons of stuff right now, but I just try to make really high-quality stuff so that everything I release people will know, 'Oh, he’s got a new video? It’s going to be awesome. I already know that.' "
