With Thanksgiving days away and Christmas right around the corner, food banks and service organizations are looking for help in meeting the needs of thousands of Utahns.
From the Bountiful Community Food Pantry, which has breakfast items, Christmas hams and teen gifts on its wish list, to the United Way of Utah County's children's book drive, Sub for Santa and Golden Angels program, organizations have a plethora of needs and offer myriad opportunities for people to serve.

The Family Connection Center in Layton is currently focused on collecting toys for Sub-for-Santa, and would particularly like presents for teens between the ages of 14 and 17. The Utah Food Bank distributed 33.3 million pounds of food and goods in its last fiscal year, the Deseret News reported. It has asked donors to focus on critical needs such as donations of peanut butter, canned tuna, salmon and stew, as well as canned fruits and vegetables.

The Salvation Army in Salt Lake City will be focusing on its traditional Red Kettle Campaign for the holiday season, and because fundraising has been difficult thus far, the organization needs all the help it can get, Major Richard Greene said. The Salvation Army also offers food boxes to selected zip codes and does weekly meal delivery to selected families in the Glendale area, among other projects.
The Crossroads Urban Center operates one of the busiest emergency food pantries in the state, according to the website, and also runs a free/low-cost thrift store.

According to the Christian Center of Park City's website, the pantry served more than 34,000 people from Summit, Wasatch and Salt Lake Counties last year.
CASFB serves families in Utah, Wasatch and Summit counties, and is dedicated to fostering self-reliance in individuals, families and the community, according to the organization website.
The Tooele County Food Bank provides assistance with food and referrals to other agencies that can help the household to become self sufficient, the food bank website states. It also supports Baby Care Cupboard, rent/mortgage assistance when funding is available, Thanksgiving and Christmas food boxes and Tooele County Operation Christmas.

The Food & Care Coalition serves meals to Utah County's homeless, mentally ill and learning disabled, fixed income families and families affected by tragedy, while also offering hygiene, shower facilities, laundry services, internet access, haircuts, emergency shelter, client outreach and more, the organization website says.
The United Way of Utah County offers a plethora of volunteer opportunities and information about services in the community.
