A Sandy man has been charged with breaking into a Salt Lake woman's home and slashing her with a knife.
Jeffrey Dean Baker, 28, 7904 Thornton Circle, Sandy, is charged with aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony, and aggravated assault, a third-degree felony, according to a complaint filed in 3rd Circuit Court.
The woman, 42, said she was sleeping in her home in the area of Sixth East and Downington Avenue, about 6:15 a.m. July 5, when she was awakened by a man crouching by her bed.
Wearing a mask and armed with a butcher knife, the man began slashing at the woman, severing a tendon in her right hand.
She fought back, and the intruder threw the knife at her before fleeing.
Police, with the help of a neighbor, apprehended Baker near Sixth East and Garfield Avenue, and recovered the woman's purse, which had been taken during the crime.
