A Kearns man has been arrested in connection with the kidnapping Monday of a Roy woman, who was taken to a gravel pit and sexually assaulted.

Kirk W. Dall, 26, 4960 S. 4980 West, was arrested at his home Thursday evening and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated sexual assault and aggravated robbery, jail records show.

Sheriff's detective Jim Vaughn is looking at Dall in connection with the assault on an 18-year-old Roy woman who was in Salt Lake City visiting friends on the Fourth of July.

The woman was walking near 1700 S. State about 10 p.m. when a man pulled up next to her in a car, pointed a gun at her and forced her into his car.

The assailant then handcuffed her and drove to Monroc Gravel Pit, 5200 S. 51st West, where he sexually assaulted her several times before handcuffing her to a piece of equipment. At one point during the attacks, he told her, "I'm sorry this had to happen, but I need to be with a woman."

By about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, the woman was able to free herself and call for help.

The woman told police her assailant had numerous newspapers, wire and brown paper in the back seat of his car. Vaughn gave the assailant's description to the Newspaper Agency Corp., which gave him Dall's name. Dall is employed part-time as a deliveryman.

The case will be screened with prosecutors next week, Vaughn said.
