The Southern Utah State Division of Continuing Education is sponsoring a series of weekend field trips for residents interested in getting an in-depth look at some of southern Utah's national parks and historic sites. College credit is available for those interested.

Great Basin National Park, located just west of the Utah-Nevada border, about 125 miles northwest of Cedar City, will be this weekend's destination. Botanist Brent Palmer, historian Steve Hatch, Geologist Richard Kennedy, and astronomer Brent Sorensen will help participants understand the newest national park.Other field trips planned during the summer include two-day excursions to Capitol Reef National Park (July 15-16) and the north rim of Grand Canyon National Park (July 22-23) and a one day trip (July 30) to several western Iron County and Washington County historical sites.

Cost of the trips includes transportation, instruction and appropriate meals. The Great Basin and Capitol Reef excursions will cost $35 each. The Grand Canyon trip is $45, and the southern Utah history tour is $20. Because enrollment is limited, organizers suggest early registration.
