International trade and marketing will be discussed from several viewpoints at the annual World Trade Seminar July 14 at Utah State University.
Featured speakers include James Moore from the U.S. Department of Commerce; David Lowsley, director of international marketing for Chrysler Corp., and Roger Axtell, author of "Do's and Taboos Around the World."Moore will speak on competitiveness in the international market. He is principal deputy assistant secretary of commerce for international economic policy.
He also heads the U.S. delegation to the industry committee of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development in Paris. He has extensive experience directing and managing the administration's trade policies and programs.
Lowsley will talk about marketing an international business. He is director of European sales and market development for Chrysler. He has held a variety of international management positions in South America, the Caribbean and Europe for Ford Motor Co.
Axtell is former vice president for Parker Pen Co., which does 80 percent of its business overseas. He held positions with the company in Europe, Africa and Latin America. His book is called a guide to international behavior.
During the seminar, Utah business people will take part in panel discussions.
Looking at exporting will be Paul Campbell, vice president of Campbell Scientific in Logan; Verl Murphy, president of Bear River Log Homes in Logan; Carlos Roundy, president of Spiricon of Logan, and Steve Price, international trade officer for the Small Business Administration in Salt Lake.
Discussing importing will be Terri Cooper, manager of Schenkers of Salt Lake; Dana Ferguson, manager of A.J. Fritz in Salt Lake, and Rosita AhChing, director of the foreign trade zone in Salt Lake.
Other essentials of importing and exporting will be addressed by Mark Whitlock, foreign exchange officer for Continental Bank in Salt Lake; Robert Mallinckrodt, Salt Lake attorney; Stephen Smoot, international trade administrator for the Department of Commerce; Scott Ogden, president of Cargo Link of Salt Lake, and Ray Charyn, special agent with the Department of Commerce.
