A Roy woman said she was raped several times late Monday and early Tuesday at a Salt Lake County gravel pit after a man forced her into his car at gunpoint and ordered her to wear handcuffs.
According to a Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office report, the woman, 18, flagged down a sheriff's deputy near the Monroc Gravel Pit, 52nd South and 51st West, at 8:44 a.m. Tuesday. The woman, wearing soiled clothing, told officers the gunman had taken her to the gravel pit and sexually assaulted her at least three times while she was handcuffed to various pieces of equipment. She had been left handcuffed and was only able to escape after jamming the handcuff mechanism with a wire.Sheriff's deputies reported the woman was walking near a convenience store at 17th S. State about 10 p.m. Monday when the man pulled over to the curb, stuck a gun out the window and told her to get in the car.
She got in the car and the man ordered her to put on a pair of handcuffs. He then drove her around the Salt Lake Valley for several hours until they arrived at gravel pit. The man was able to drive his small red Ford two-door hatchback around a locked gate and far inside the gravel pit, reports say.
The woman was moved several times during the night. The man didn't talk much to the woman, but spent most of his time listening to the radio in his car he called "Scarlet" and "his lady."
He once told the woman, "I'm sorry this had to happen, but I need to be with a woman."
The man left the woman at least once and returned before leaving her altogether, reports say.
