Coast Guardsman Matt Boyle guards the Panamanian-registered Encounter Bay in Seattle after it was seized off the Washington coast last week loaded with 72 tons of marijuana. The captain of the Encounter Bay stalled a U.S. Coast Guard boarding party as long as possible to destroy records, said Capt. Cecil Allison of the Coast Guard cutter. The Encounter Bay's crew yielded to a boarding party only after the Coast Guard cutter fired machine guns at its rudder and engine room and threatened to use cannon fire, Allison said. He said they found no records indicating the origin or destination of the vessel.
