Attorneys for Clarence Leake, convicted last month of assault and other charges in the 1986 takeover of the Washington Temple of the LDS Church, filed a motion Tuesday requesting a new trial.

The attorneys cited an "inconsistent" verdict in which the jury found Leake guilty of some charges and "not responsible on others."An aide to Leake's public defender, Carol Freeman, said no hearing had been set on the motion and estimated it might take two months until Judge Peter J. Messittes hears arguments on the issue.

Leake is scheduled for sentencing by Messittes on Sept. 6.
