Computers that catalog, check in and check out books for the Salt Lake County Library System will be shut down April 5 through April 8 so they can be made to work faster.

The 15 system libraries will remain open as usual during the work, so all services will be performed manually. Assistance will be provided to locate books and other materials."The results of the upgrade should more than make up for the down time required to complete the process," said Dale Jensen, library system technical service coordinator.

Jensen said the computers' memory capacity will be increased, which will make library software work faster so information can be retrieved more quickly.
