"Prime Times," an evening of song-and-dance entertainment by the Young Ambassadors of Brigham Young University, opens a two-month run tonight at Promised Valley Playhouse, 132 S. State, in downtown Salt Lake City.

The non-stop musical revue has a TV talk show setting, allowing the 15 performers to touch on such topics as news, sports, weather, entertainment, the arts, family and lifestyle. The flexible setting also takes the audience from backstage at a television studio to exciting location spots throughout the country.The show will include such numbers as "Stepping Out With My Baby," "I Got Rhythm," "Jellicle Cat" and "Clap Hands, Here Comes Charlie."

They'll take patrons down the Missouri River with "I, Huckleberry Me," to Nashville for the Grand Old Opry, to the circus with "Join the Circus," to Never-Never Land with Peter Pan - and they'll even travel via roller skates for "I Am the Starlight (express)."

BYU's Young Ambassadors are noted for their singing, dancing and acting skills. The troupe is chosen each year from hundreds of talented BYU students who audition for the chance to be part of the group.

The troupe has toured internationally. The 1988 tour includes the British Isles and Ireland. Previously, the Young Ambassadors have entertained in 43 foreign countries and throughout the United States.

Prior to embarking on international tours, the Young Ambassadors study the languages and cultures of the countries they will visit, helping them relate easily with people they meet, regardless of country or culture.

The 15-member troupe comprises youths from Utah, Georgia, Nevada, Idaho, Louisiana, Washington, Wisconsin, Canada, England and California.

Following tonight's premiere, "Prime Times" will continue on Tuesdays through Saturdays through Sept. 3. Curtain is 7:30 p.m. with two matinees at 2 p.m. July 30 and Aug. 20. The show runs about 1 1/2 hours.
