A 10-year veteran of professional football with the Chicago Bears, Los Angeles Rams and Washington Redskins will be moving to Salt Lake City soon to become general manager of sales and production for American Gilsonite Co., a unit of Chevron Resources Co.

George R. Burman, 45, will be responsible for the company's operation in Salt Lake City and Bonanza, Uintah County, replacing Robert L. Haffner, 65, who will transfer to manage Chevron's mineral development projects in Portland, Maine.A native of Whiting, Ind., Burman received a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering at Northwestern University in 1964, a master's degree in business administration in 1964 and a doctor of philosophy degree in economics in 1973 from the University of Chicago.

He played professional football from 1964 to 1973 and was an assistant professor of economics at Carnegie Mellon University from 1974 to 1976 and joined Gulf Oil Co.'s corporate planning staff as a senior associate in 1976. After the Chevron/Gulf merger, he became a planning manager for Chevron Resources Co. in Indiana in 1985.
