Fire restrictions for Utah and Juab counties have been ordered because of extremely hazardous conditions on the western slopes of the Wasatch Front.

The order restricts open fires to designated campgrounds and picnic areas beginning immediately. It also prohibits smoking except in vehicles, boats, developed recreation sites, residences or on a paved road. Fireworks are prohibited within the restricted area or within any National Forest land. The restriction area extends along the western slope of the Wasatch Front from Nephi to the Utah County-Salt Lake County line near Lone Peak.

Klason said people need to be particularly cautious during the July Fourth holiday weekend.

"Unfortunately, we are faced with all the conditions for a severe fire season, " he said.
