ST. GEORGE — Dixie State senior Nicklaus Britt and freshman Triston Gardner have been named to the 2019 Golf Coaches Association of America’s (GCAA) NCAA Division II PING South Central All-Region Men’s Golf team, which was announced on Thursday.
Britt (Fillmore, Utah/Millard High School), who also earned 2019 first team all-RMAC honors and GCAA-PING all-West region recognition in 2017 and 2018, posted four top-10 finishes in 11 events this season, highlighted by his second-straight individual conference crown as he claimed medalist honors at the 2019 RMAC Championships last month in Chandler, Arizona. Britt finished with a three-round score of 13-under par 200 for the championship, which broke his own school 54-hole scoring record of 202 he set at the 2017 Pacific West Conference Championships.
The senior also posted an eighth-place finish at the 2019 NCAA Division II Men’s Golf South Central/West Regional Championships last weekend at The Ledges Golf Club. He also recorded a runner-up finish at the Academy of Art-hosted Bay Area Invitational in February and finished t-ninth at the DSU Fall Regional Preview last October. Britt currently leads the Trailblazers with a 72.86 stroke average with 13 par or better rounds, including a pair of 5-under 66s carded at the RMAC Championships.
Gardner (Ivins, Utah/Snow Canyon High School), who was tabbed as the 2019 RMAC Freshman of the Year and collected first-team all-conference honors, tied Britt for the team lead with four top-10s and has posted a team-high 14 rounds of par or better. He is currently second in scoring average at 72.90, which includes a team-leading three under-par rounds at last week’s NCAA regional, during which he rolled in a tournament-best 18 total birdies.Comment on this story
The freshman has played in 10 events in his debut season, including a t-fourth place showing at the NCAA regional, and back-to-back top-10s at the Western Washington Viking and Western New Mexico events last fall, which came in just his second and third collegiate starts, respectively.
Coming off the program’s first-ever NCAA regional championship victory last weekend, Dixie State will play at the 2019 NCAA Division II Men’s Golf National Championships, which will be held on May 20-24, at the Resort at Glade Springs Golf Club in Daniels, West Virginia.
