SALT LAKE CITY — DJ Khaled announced on Instagram that his upcoming album, “Father of Asahd,” will feature the late Nipsey Hussle, who was shot and killed in Los Angeles in March.
Khaled said the song will be called “Higher” and 100 percent of the proceeds will go to Hussle’s children.
“The very title of the song reminds us that vibrating on a ‘Higher’ level was the essence of Nipsey’s soul,” Khaled wrote on Instagram. “It is in this spirit, of moving forward, of preserving his mission, that I, my co-writers, producers, and label partners are donating 100% of all our proceeds from ‘Higher’ to Nipsey’s children, Emani and Kross.”
John Legend confirmed he will also be on the new track. He tweeted that the song was an inspiration for him.
“Proud to be a part of this inspiring record with djkhaled and @nipseyhussle,” Legend tweeted. “We lost him too soon.”
“Father of Asahd” will arrive on Friday, according to Pitchfork.
Hussle was shot and killed at age 33. Hundreds of fans gathered in Los Angeles to honor him in the immediate aftermath of his death, according to the Deseret News. Utah Jazz stars paid their respects to the rapper, too.
