In response to the "My View" column of May 8, 2019, titled "The principles to help Utah flourish," the author speaks about the Republican party, and states, "We are the party that supports life, liberty and opportunity. ... We are the party that rallies to combat our suicide epidemic ..." and so on. Really?

No one has a monopoly on supporting goodness. Goodness is not due to the party. It is due to the people who are in the party. And I know many people who are not Republicans who have done much for our country. Are they not supporting life, liberty and opportunity? Do they not care about the suicide epidemic? Why do we insist on polarizing our nation by letting our "party" dictate our level of unity and acceptance of one another?

Why do we let our parties become enemies to civility?
