SALT LAKE CITY — Alfonso Plummer, a 6-foot-1, 175-pound shooting guard from Arizona Western College, has signed a National Letter of Intent with the University of Utah. Plummer averaged a team-high 18.6 points per game last season.

“Alfonso is a great young man who will fit into our culture and system very well,” Utah coach Larry Krystkowiak said in making the announcement. “He is a great shooter. He has had quite the journey so far, and we are happy to have him join our program.”

Plummer led the NJCAA in 3-pointers made last season with 126, earning first-team All-America accolades in leading Arizona Western to the national tournament. He shot 88.8 percent from the free-throw line and 43.8 percent from beyond the arc.

Plummer joins incoming freshmen Jaxon Brenchley, Branden Carlson, Mikael Jantunen, Rylan Jones, Matthew Van Komen and Brendan Wenzel as newcomers to the program.

The Utes lost seniors Sedrick Barefield, Parker Van Dyke and Beau Rydalch to graduation.

Utah went 17-14 last season and did not make the NCAA or NIT.
