SALT LAKE CITY — ”Iron Man” was released in theaters 11 years ago this week, and in what seems like a perfect way to mark the occasion, Robert Downey Jr. took to Instagram Thursday to share a video of the “Avengers: Endgame” cast singing happy birthday.
Note: This video shows set details from “Avengers: Endgame” and contains mild visual spoilers.
“Happy 11th Birthday to the 1st Iron Man film released this day in 2008,” Downey wrote on Instagram.
“Iron Man” was the first “Avengers” film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “Avengers: Endgame” bookends what was started in “Iron Man” to bring the films to their conclusion.
In an interview with Howard Stern in 2016, Downey responded to a question about how he would feel if Marvel replaced him as Iron Man.
“If you’d ask me in 2008, 2009, 2010 how I felt about it, I would say that I was the Atlas of the Marvel Universe, I was holding it up, they should erect a shrine in my honor, blah, blah, blah. Whatever,” Downey said. “I really just got to be the frontman in a band that was gonna be in the Hall of Fame no matter what.”
