The university awarded 6,485 degrees, with 5,953 graduates received degrees, certificates or diplomas during its 78th Commencement Exercises. Utah Valley University graduates represent 29 Utah counties, 48 states and territories, and 41 countries. Nearly 1,500 of them are the first college graduates in their families, according to university officials. The 5 Browns, a critically acclaimed and award-winning sibling piano ensemble from Utah, delivered the keynote address through music and word. Each of the 5 Browns also received an honorary doctorate of Fine Arts and Humanities. Honorary doctorates were also awarded to Dr. K. Newell Dayley (honorary doctorate of Fine Arts and Humanities) and publisher and civic leader Jeanette Bennett (honorary doctorate of Business).
