One person was killed in a head-on collision between two semitrailers on U.S. 6 Tuesday morning.

GREEN RIVER, Emery County — A head-on crash between two semitrailers killed one person and forced the closure of the highway early Tuesday.

The crash happened just before 4 a.m. on U.S. 6. A semitrailer heading west crossed the center line for an unknown reason and hit an eastbound semi, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

The driver of the westbound semi was killed. The driver of the other vehicle was treated for injuries not considered to be life-threatening and his passenger was not injured, the UHP stated.

One of the vehicles involved was a FedEx truck that was split open and packages were scattered all along the highway.

Route 6 was reopened about 9:45 a.m.
