Was Gary Andersen the right football coach for Utah State to hire after Matt Wells left Logan for Texas Tech?
SBNation’s Bill Connelly isn’t exactly convinced, an opinion he lays out in his most recent piece "I don’t love Utah State’s re-hire of Gary Andersen, but it could work," the latest in his annual preview series of every FBS team in college football.
Connelly has quite a bit to his argument against the Andersen hire, examining the success of previous college football coaches who returned to schools they had already coached, as well as Andersen’s suspect track record after leaving Logan, among a host of other things.
Ultimately, “the Andersen hire left a bad taste in my mouth, primarily because it hints at a longing for the past when the present tense was awfully exciting,” wrote Connelly. “If he is up for it, though, he could absolutely find more success.”
Following the NFL draft, CBSSports’ Dennis Dodd released his latest top-25 college football rankings, as a reflection of his thoughts following spring football.
The top teams were unsurprising, with the defending champion Clemson Tigers ranked No. 1 overall, followed by Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma and LSU.
Coming in at No. 12 were the Utes, of whom Dodd only had positive things to say.
“The Utes are the Pac-12 South favorites (maybe more),” wrote Dodd, “with key returners at quarterback, running back, wide receiver, tight end and cornerback.”
Born to be a Seahawk
Former Ute linebacker Cody Barton went on the Seattle radio show "Chuck and the Buck in the Morning" Monday morning following his selection by the Seahawks.
He quickly endeared himself to Seattle fans everywhere, according to The News Tribune Seahawks beat writer Gregg Bell.
