TUCSON, Ariz. Utah State sophomore golfer Andy Hess carded a final round 1-over-par 73 Sunday to finish tied for 29th place at even-par 216 (70-73-73) at the 2019 Mountain West Men’s Golf Championship held here at the par-72, 7,194-yard Catalina Course at Omni Tucson National Resort.

New Mexico won the team championship with a 33-under 831 (279-278-274), while the Lobos’ Galven Green (70-66-67) and Sean Carlon (67-68-68) both finished the 54-hole tournament at 13-under 203. Green then defeated Carlon on the third playoff hole for medalist honors. Utah State finished in 11th place at 18-over 882 (288-294-300).

Hess began his final round by carding a 1-over 37 on the front nine with two birdies and three bogeys, and then scored an even-par 36 on the back nine with three birdies and three bogeys. In all, Hess’ even-par 216 is tied for his lowest 54-hole score of the season, while his opening round 70 was his seventh round under par this year and the 11th of his career

Also competing for Utah State was junior Chase Lansford, who shot a final round 7-over 79 and finished tied for 42nd place at 5-over 221 (68-74-79). Lansford’s opening round 68 was his best round of the season, his first round in the 60s this year and his eighth overall, not to mention his third round under par this season and the 17th of his career.

Rounding out Utah State’s golfers at the Mountain West Championship was junior Hayden Eckert, who shot a 3-over 75 during his final round and tied for 50th place at 10-over 226 (79-72-75). Freshman Cameron Tucker shot a 4-over 76 during his final round and tied for 52nd place at 11-over 227 (71-80-76), and sophomore Colten Cordingley also shot a 4-over 76 during his final 18 holes to finish in 54th place at 19-over 235 (84-75-76).

The 2019 Mountain West Championship concludes Utah State’s season.
