Epic Games began another crossover event between the Avengers/Marvel and “Fortnite” on April 25.

SALT LAKE CITY — “Fortnite” and “Avengers: Endgame” launched their massive crossover event this week, and it’s a limited-time mode.

The new event turns every gamer into a superhero or a powerful villain. The game splits everyone into two teams of 20 people. One side, the human team, is dropped into the “Fortnite” map with an assault rifle, shotgun and a treasure map that will lead you toward an “Avenger”-style weapon, like Iron Man gloves or Captain America’s shield.

The villains, meanwhile, will become Thanos’ army, the Chitauri, which will have a blaster, a jetpack and a charge-up power. If you touch one of the Infinity Stones, you become Thanos. Once the Thanos player dies, a random player will become Thanos next time.

And so begins the battle. According to The Verge, the villains have 100 total lives “but it can initiate an endgame situation by collecting all six Infinity Stones that drop incrementally on the map, taking away humanity’s respawn capability.”

The Verge reports that “there are typically about 50 or more Chitauri and Thanos pressing down on the 15 to 20 heroes as they defend the final Infinity Stone.”

According to The Verge, the mode seems to “feel slightly skewed in favor of Thanos, which may or may not have been an intentional touch on behalf of Epic Games and Marvel.”

“Fortnite” started teasing the new mode last week before “Endgame” dropped in theaters, which I wrote about for the Deseret News.

Flashback: Last year, “Fortnite” released a crossover event with Marvel that brought a Thanoscharacter to the game, which I wrote about for the Deseret News.
